Hi John, this hint may not work for anyone researching family in Stoke on Trent. In the early 1950's many streets were renamed due to duplications. Towns that merged when Stoke was declared a city in 1925 each had for instance a 'Queen Street'. The changes are available on thepotteries.org website or I have a full list if anyone requires help. I have found this useful, especially when combined with the enumerators route on page 1 of the census, even for London when streets have disappeared as the name is often similar (i.e. road to terrace etc.) to a new one.
