I learnt from a local newspaper that the Red Cross has collected 236,000 records of members of its Voluntary Aid Detachments in the 1st World War. So far only surnames beginning A-C have been uploaded at www.redcross.org.uk/ww1 If you visit the website you can ask to to be informed when records for surnames beginning with other letters of the alphabet have been added.
