    3. For those of you with the possibility of German connections in your study, http://www.ortsfamilienbuecher.de/ is a virtual goldmine. It has a collection of of 'Local Heritage Books' put together by transcribers (much like some Guild members transcribe parishes for a local society) for a huge number of German localities and then published online. First you search for the place name and then choose the surname - what you get are, effectively, nested Family Group sheets that have been assembled from the local church and civil records.
