    3. Hi, My mother-in-law was a Smith !!! I've managed to trace her family back through the censuses to a Thomas Smith supposedly born Balsall, Warwicks c. 1795 but have few expectations of ever finding marriages or deaths/burials for any of them, being farm workers they are unlikely to have left any wills. Had to wait for the 1901 census to even get started as I knew grandfather-in-law, also Thomas Smith, had been a butler to the Spencers of Althorpe at that time, 'had come from Birmingham', but luckily was born in what was then a small village, one of nine children - including a John Smith! I don't know if this was a one off name/year, but if you think you should be finding someone and they are not there, it might pay you to page through. It would be Smiths wouldn't it - I eventually found him in 1995 - which does seem to be in order!! Sue 6000 researching Pascall
