Hi Maureen, Any of the y-chromosome "marker" tests (12-marker, 25-marker, 37-marker, 67-marker, 111-marker) is a good place to start. The 37-marker test is probably the minimal really useful one. If your Waycott line belongs to a common y-chromosome haplogroup (very likely by definition), you would want to have more markers to help narrow your match list. Which test is the "right" test also depends somewhat on your budget -- if your funds are limited, you can purchase one of the cheaper tests now, then upgrade to more markers at a later date. -Mark Bunch (GOONS #6223) Othello, Washington, USA > Date: Tue, 2 Dec 2014 11:35:59 +0000 > To: GOONS@rootsweb.com > Subject: [G] Which DNA test? > From: goons@rootsweb.com > > I am considering buying a Y-DNA test in the familytreeDNA sale. Maureen, remember that the 37 marker Y-DNA test kits are available through GOONS salesroom at £80,which is a good discount and cheaper even the current familytreeDNA sale prices. It seems to be the best value kit at the moment and a good starting point.
