Help required here please. I am trying to put together the Wootton/ Woodstock part of my tree. Unfortunately it says 1861 and 1871 census are missing and 20 years is a large gap to be without information does anyone know of a solution to this problem please. Shirley Power GRIMMETT 6171
You should see what it’s like when a whole century’s worth of census data is missing! How annoying. I've just been seeking 1871 for two related London families of Hillyard and Bawtree where neither family can be found. I'd thought if I could find one, the other could be nearby, which is one idea you could try? Did any of your family get born, married or die during that period that you could at least get an address of where they might have been? A death might even give you two addresses if the informant is related but living at another address. I know the Hillyard was a coffee house keeper so thought might be in a Trade Directory but all I've found (by Googling) was a mention on the Old Bailey website that someone burgled his dwelling house, stole a coat plus 2s.6d., received 12 months hard labour, unfortunately no address or even area of London given. Do you mean the census details from a particular area are missing? If so, it might help to know those details Nick Nick Serpell nick@serpell.org > On 4 Jan 2015, at 14:17, SHIRLEY POWER via <goons@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > Help required here please. > I am trying to put together the Wootton/ Woodstock part of my tree. Shirley, What is 'it' in your second line? It's 'well known' that the Woodstock sub-district is missing for 1861. 1871 is not missing. If 'it' cannot help you then consider buying the images and index for Oxfordshire from the Oxfordshire FHS! ( http://www.ofhs.org.uk/CDsales.html#censebs ) Piece 1449 includes both Wootton and Woodstock.
