I would regard that as an incidental benefit of the GMI. It is not mentioned on the Guild Marriage Index introductory page (http://www.one-name.org/members/GMI/gmi.html), and in any case is not really compatible with the error correction and data additions that have been made to fulfil the primary objective of building a database to connect GRO references with marriage locations. Marriages within the scope of the GMI would form only a fraction of the information collected by Guild members. Use of other Guild projects intended for the purpose would be a far better option for those wanting to preserve their ONS data.
