    3. Perhaps a sibling married a Rowe who became his God-father. Have you looked at censuses to see if there were Rowes living nearby, someone met in the Army/Navy who was admired. I have been trying to trace back families who have used Bawtree as a 'first' name. It usually pops up quite quickly as mother or grandmother maiden name but in one instance I've gone through four different surnamed families to arrive at a possible connection back in 1730's.
