Hello all, I received my May 2017 issue of the Society of Genealogists (London) newsletter. In it was an announcement about a "Name and Place" web site. It can be found at <http://www.nameandplace.co.uk/>. An excerpt from its description in the newsletter reads: "Name and Place is a dynamic new database and mapping application designed for One-Place Studies, One-Name Studies, Surname Studies and Local History Projects and will be formally launched later in 2017. Cofounders Paul Carter (Technical Lead) and Pam Smith (Content Lead) originally created and developed an application robust enough to cope with the manipulation of diverse historical data in varying formats and size for a One-Place Study." and it goes on to describe it a little more. Does anybody know anything more about this apparently new service to be available in the future? And how it might help in an ONS? The web site doesn't have much in the way of details and I was hoping that a GOONS member in the UK might be able to explain. Thanks and take care... Peter Bradish, Titusville, FL USA (GOONS #6924) P.S. The Facebook link <http://www.facebook.com/nameandplace/> in the SOG announcement didn't work for me.
Pam Smith ONS 4961 is one of the owners/originators. Paul Carter, the technical lead for the Name and Place Project, is also a Guild member (6064). If Pam or Paul are on the list perhaps they could let us have some further information about the new project.
