    1. Re: [G] FTM change file name help
    2. Sherlock Holmes
    3. Hi, I will take you through the process step by step, it is an old DOS trick that still works even in Windows 10. This can be done without using FTM at all. 1. Go to the Directory / Folder that the file is in 2. then find the file you wish to change the name of. 3. Right click on the file name 4. Select rename file 5. Place cursor in front of the part of the file name you wish to change, drag mouse cursor to the end segment of what you want to change and release right mouse button. 6. input the new name 7. Click anywhere on the screen outside the changed name. example LondonGu.FTW becomes Gullock.FTW So long as you do not already have a file by that name in the same directory /folder the file will be renamed as you want it. Next. Open FTM and find and open the file, this ought to work every time( note this is a test to ensure all is well with the file.) Regards, David J Grimshaw (or is it Grimason?) Genealogical Researcher of the "Grimason" surname and variations of the "Grimason" surname World Wide.
