    3. Hi Paul The entry is pretty clear, except the surname of the Master. From a search of the other parish registers for Topcliffe around this date I'mfairly sure that it is meant to be Farmeerie (or similar) {are you listening Alan Morehouse?!), so it reads: 1604 Edward Wanncopp seruant to Thomas Farmeerie[?] of Asenbed Did Drowne him selfe in Swale vpon the 17[th] Nouemb[er] and was found vpon the 16[th] May nextafter and was buried the same Day I bet they did bury him the next day..... 2. Corinne Curtis via
    3. Thank you to the TEAR study for alerting me to the Guild Online Archives. I am a bit embarrassed to say I actually hadn't realised this service was available in this form, and it looks quite an exciting way of promoting my study as well as archiving. I am quite happy about the idea of using the structured BMD archive format for British records, and it looks like the "user defined" structure can be used for non-british BMD as well as other record sets. What I am most interested in is whether anyone has set up an online database of individuals that somehow identifies whether you have placed them in a reconstructed tree, and if so, who their parents and/or their earliest known ancestor is? I'm guessing I could do this in a user-defined database that started a bit like an international birth record (year of birth, place, parents names) with an added column for earliest known ancestor, and maybe for place of origin of earliest known ancestor, and possibly even for my database ref number (the RIN from legacy). And I know I should probably ask the administrator of the archive, but while I am here does anyone know if there is a maximum size of file (or maximum number of entries) for the archive? To those Committee members who are standing down - a huge thank you for standing up over the past years and for putting the Guild's needs ahead of you own (I am sure many of you have not been able to work on your own ONS as much as you would have liked). We have come a far distance in the past 10 months - our Guild Website is really coming along and I finally got my Profile up due to how easy it now is to post/update. I have added some surnames of interest and think that is a terrific feature and hope others will take advantage of it. I appreciate those who keep us informed whether through the Forum, our various social media (Facebook, Google+ and Twitter), and the News at the Website. The seminars and hangouts that have been broadcast and recorded (archived at our YouTube channel) are a real benefit to distance members. The Journal continues to be a "must read" and I learn so much from those who share how they do their studies. The 12 Days of Christmas posts were fun and it was interesting to see all those surnames that fit the theme. I realize that so much goes on behind the scenes that most of us remain blissfully unaware of as we work on our studies AND some of you devote a tremendous amount of time and effort to the Guild. Thanks and here's hoping that some Guild members choose to stand up and run for Committee to work with any returning Committee members. The only way the Guild continues to operate as a center for excellence is if our volunteer members are willing to stand for Committee (or accept postholder positions) and work as part of team to build up the Guild. This is a wonderful group to be part of and it improves each time any of us do our part. Tessa Tessa Keough Guild of One-Name Studies, Member No. 5089 Keough (Keogh, Kough & Kehoe) Registered ONS

    3. Time is fast running out if you are thinking of getting nominated for the Committee this year, the final date for the receipt of nominations by the Secretary is Wednesday 28th January.   A number of the existing Committee have indicated they are standing down, some after many years service to the Guild.  Therefore we know we need some new members, please do not leave it to others and give some thought to standing yourself.   This is a useful paper written to give potential new Committee Members some insight as to what is involved - http://one-name.org/members/InfoForNewCommitteeMembers.pdf   If you would like to discuss the matter, in total confidence then please email at volunteers@one-name.org we can then arrange to have a chat on the telephone.   Other links you may find useful are:   The Nomination Form for Committee is at - http://www.one-name.org/members/NominationForm.pdf    The Rules for Electronic Nomination at - http://www.one-name.org/members/NominationByEmail.pdf.   Peter Hagger Volunteers Co-ordinator

    1. [G] FGS/RootsTech 2015 - Are You Attending?
    2. Tessa Keough via
    3. I wanted to provide an update about FGS/RootsTech 2015 which is less than a month away. Hopefully a number of Guild members will be in attendance and some Guild members are presenting. The Guild is participating in the FGS Society Showcase (located at the FGS's large booth area). The Society Showcase will have individuals and information available about the various local, regional, national and international groups, organizations and societies that are members of FGS. Over the 3 days we will have some Guild members at the Society Showcase to answer questions and/or meet up with other Guild members and those interested in one-name studies or surname research. The simple reason that we are participating in Society Showcase rather than having a booth at the Exhibit Hall is that very few Guild members got back to me about whether or not they were attending the conference or whether they would be willing to help out with a booth. I realize that it will be a very busy couple of days for all of us who are attending and/or presenting (and for those of us hoping to get in some research time at the Family History Library) but please do let me know if you will be at FGS/RootsTech - hopefully Guild members can meet up for drinks or dinner. And if you have an hour to spare, why not contact me about helping out at the Society Showcase. Finally, do we have any Guild members who are presenting at either FGS or RootsTech. I would love to give a shout out to fellow Guild members and make a point to meet up and encourage others to attend your sessions Thanks. 3. I've also seen will documents for two different men of the same name combined in one filing reference when I was at the Bristol Records Office years ago - confused me no end having quite different content on each page until I realised it wasn't the same death date. In terms of the digital copies, I guess it can sometimes be hard to get the reference page numbers right, when they don't start a new page for each person (so the same page reference can conceivably be applied to two or even three, if very short, people). 2. Hi Sue Had a quick look at both sites using the URL links you gave. By removing the / - on the second URL your profile page came up loud and clear http://one-name.org/name_profile/Teear With the first of the links I could get access to your Guild Archive Page http://www.one-name.org/archives/teear.html and by following the link to civil births etc I also found your Teear archive of births at http://www.one-name.org/cgi-bin/archive/birthfrontpage.cgi?study=Teear&ref=19236 But no sign of any records. This does not mean they are not there and because I didn't find them is because I don't know sufficient about how the system works. I prefer to store everything of mine as PDFs in the Guild Library Archive. Try visiting http://www.one-name.org/cgi-bin/library/search.cgi and enter Vayro in the search bar, and you will see a variety of Vayro Ancestry booklets, documents and material including a gedcom of one of my websites and a PDF 122 page document backup of the content of my other website. So I made a conscious decision to avoid using the archive facility that you seem to be having problems with but which of course is fully searchable. I feel sure that those involved in the management of the Guild website will be able to advise you in more detail.
