I had included his 1st marriage about 25 years ago and didn't immediately recognize his name when adding the details of his second marriage, so copied enough of the details for FTM to suggest a merge, which I thought it had done successfully until I realized he was now on the Index twice. The first marriage is fine but the second wife now looks like she married Edgar twice on the same date. It won't allow me to delete him from the 'Add another spouse/Highlight preferred spouse' window, and looks really odd on a printed Tree or Outline Descent. Luckily Edgar and his first wife had one daughter who never married, and a son with a small family, probably no children by his 2nd wife, so there is no long line of descent from either wife for me to make sure they only appear once on a tree - I've had a similar problem before where descendants have appeared twice taking up an extra five pages on an Outline Descent print-out. 2. Bill Full via
    3. Hi Merryl, I have run into this situation numerous times and it is a bit tricky to fix but it can be done with some persistence. The procedure is called "Merge Two Specific Individuals" which is found under the Person tab. First make sure that you jot down on a piece of paper the Names and BMD information for the two individuals that you want to merge as they appear in your FTM file. (I do this as the Names and/or BMD's may be slightly different for the two individuals and you will need this info later - you don't want to merge the wrong two folks as it can't be undone later. Then you are stuck!) Select the first person you want to Merge. I generally select the person with the most data / facts in my FTM file. Then from the "Person" pull down menu select "Merge Two Specific Individuals". First you will be asked if you want to back up your file before proceeding - always a good idea if you haven't done this operation before. Next an "Index of Individuals" will appear where the person that you have selected is highlighted. Now using the information that you jotted down for the second person to merge, you select that other person in the Index with your cursor and then select "OK". Then a screen will pop up with BMD info for both persons being merged. You need to select which BMD info and other Facts that you want to keep as Preferred, Alternates or Discarded. When you have done this hit "OK" and the two people are merged. I then review the Facts and make sure they are how I want them. You are done! Good luck. If you don't know, it's a very pretty crossing point of the River Medway, but there is no obvious camping spot. So I put on my thinking cap and pondered the scene, and decided to look up the local history society who didn't answer when I telephone the secretary. I next looked at the parish council, I rang the Chairman who lives in Maidstone, (Always start at the top of any organisation to get the best results) most helpful chap involved with someone writing a history of the village and he identified a row of tiny huts, I think about 16 at present may have been considerable more in 1939 which were hop pickers huts (Tents) apparently they are listed buildings but much negleted. Considering that the 1939 Register was taken 29 September, it was right in the middle of the Hop-picking season, when masses working clas Londoners decamped to Kent for the work and fresh air. If one continues on the road another half mile one comes across a magnificant converted Oasthouses, an integral part of the Kentish agricultural landscape. As to Catherine S LAWS born 18 Sep 1905 I went to my database and out jumped one Catherine Stoker LAWS, but it couldn't be her as although she lived in Dartford KENT, she was born 23 May 1905 and had married 1936 to one William Turnbull JOHNSTON who was alive until 1968.
