Is anyone able to translate Latin for me? I have just found the text of the earliest reference to my study name - in Latin - dating from 1317, in the Miscellany of The Spalding Club. I can have a stab at some of it but is there anyone able to do more? I have a screen shot of it but suspect I cannot attach it here. Any help would be very much appreciated. My obituary notice was from the Richmond and Twickenham Times - and it cost the Good Fairy £1.5s to post it to me here in France. How generous is that? Who are you, Tinkerbelle? K Still on a Wildgoose Chase! http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~willgooseweb/
My recommendation when clipping is to use 'Evernote.com' use with your camera, attachment, work chat, reminders, handwriting, & text notes wonderful at syncing with your other devices too. Hi Guys (again), Sorry forgot to mention that there is also another Robert bap. 23 Feb 1829 at St. Georges, Hanover Square whose mother is said to Mary MINGAY and father Joseph ? residing in the workhouse, all of which does complicate matters. Regards Tony Anthony John MINGAY, now in NZ once of Kent & Suffolk, England but still researching Worldwide the surname MINGAY & its variants. http://www.mingayhistory.co.uk.
Hi Guys, Can anyone advise me on the validity of the Ancestry - England & Wales Christening Index, please. I have found a reference to a Baptism of a Robert MINGAY on 25 Dec 1829 at Orford, Suffolk, England whose mother is Mary Ann MINGAY with no other details, uhhmm oh for more. I thought I had taken all references to MINGAY in and around Orford many years ago, yes there is a Mary Ann MINGAY bp 1809 but as far as I know she marries a John TURNER, noting in the 1851 Census a Robert MINGAY appears to be living with the Turner family as his/her nephew. The probelm is that in following a Robert MINGAY born 1829 through the various stages of his life he gives his place of birth as Islington or London or Suffolk according to which year the Census or statement was taken. At his marriage he states his father was another Robert MINGAY, a deceased carpenter; interestingly he ends his last years of his life in Margate, Kent which was also the place of residence of Mary Ann TURNER nee MINGAY, brother, Robert (Osbourne) MiNGAY, there is enough evidence to say that he was not the father. One cannot avoid a conclusion that Robert MINGAY son of Mary Ann MINGAY was born before any marriage took place. Hoping someone can shed a light on that Index. Regards Tony Anthony John MINGAY, now in NZ once of Kent & Suffolk, England but still researching Worldwide the surname MINGAY & its variants. http://www.mingayhistory.co.uk.
Google Blogger comes with its own very basic analytical tool but you can also install third-party analytics such as the full Google Analytics or StatCounter. You can then track the IP addresses of the people who are visiting your site. You can also see the pages that they are landing on. Both tools are free. With StatCounter you have to pay if you want to have access to more than your last 500 logs. Google Analytics has a wealth of reports but is more complicated to use. I like the simplicity of StatCounter. Best wishes Debbie
... to whoever it was who just sent me a couple of LOVEGROVE newspaper clippings from the Richmond and Twickenham Times but forgot to identify themselves. I assume from the fact they sent me the actual clippings by snailmail, rather than scanned images,.that they are not on the internet and so will not be seeing this. but you never know: thanks, anyway. Hi John - as someone else suggested - maybe it is the "naughty people" looking to make use of your site, or people seeking advice and guidance on legal matters. One day I will go back over the access logs for my site and see what the picture is now. I understand that there are sites which list the IP addresses of known "naughty people" - and I should take advantage of it - but keeping my blocking list up to date is not something I would remember to do. May be there is a free service from one of the "big" companies. Having a One-Name Study site which is an easy target is not something I would like to be known for. Ummmm. A couple of years ago, I looked up the addresses of the systems that were looking at my One-Name Study site and found that most of those from the USA were government sites. Now I do recognise that the US government may allow its employees to use government equipment for their hobby, but I do suspect much may be official scanning. If the USA does it, why not Russia and other governments? If an individual contacts me - that is another thing.
