    1. [G] Printing and help needed
    2. Jean Normington
    3. Hello fellow Goons - it is quite a while since I have posted to this list. Before I ask for help I wonder if you know that if a UK citizen dies abroad their death is registered in the country they die in and cannot be registered in the UK unless you are prepared to pay an extortionate sum. This could be a reason why you can't find the death of a person. I know this because sadly my husband died very suddenly when we were on holiday in Vienna in 2016. This leads to my questions: my husband ran the Normington ONS, but I have not felt able to take it on (although I would be prepared to answer and queries). His records are entirely paper, the only thing on the computer is the Brothers Keeper software where he entered all his research. My two step sons are not interested in taking on the study let alone the enormous amount of paper he accumulated. So I thought it would be nice just to get their whole family tree printed for them (using ged-com from BK?) Can you recommend a printing service for this? Any ideas on how I can preserve all his work? Thanks in advance for any advice. Jean -- Jean Normington Boughton ONS Guild member 4342

I have a Harriet Vicary residing there in May 1870 when she registered the birth of her daughter. Hoping it might give me a clue as to who he was. 3. Dear Debbie and GOONS list readers, Be careful with broad statements like this one. If Pat's Nephew is Pat's Sister's Son, then his "Y" chromosome DNA will be completely different to Pat's own "Y" chromosome DNA. Regards, Adrian. -----Original message------ Date: Wed, 28 Mar 2018 15:43:06 +0100 From: "Debbie Kennett" <[email protected]> Subject: Viewing Ancestry DNA Results Pat Assuming you've already had your Y-DNA tested at FTDNA, there would be no need for your nephew to take a Y-DNA test as well as he would be expected to have the same Y-DNA signature as you. 3. Pat I don't know if you got an answer to your question at the conference or not but your post only came through to the list yesterday so I'm replying here. The AncestryDNA test is an autosomal DNA test so it is not compatible for comparisons with the Y-DNA results in your surname project. However, what your nephew can do is transfer his AncestryDNA results to the Family Tree DNA Family Finder database. He will need to download his raw data from AncestryDNA and then upload it to FTDNA. He can follow the instructions in this link: https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer Once he has an FTDNA kit number and password he would be able to join your DNA project. Assuming you've already had your Y-DNA tested at FTDNA, there would be no need for your nephew to take a Y-DNA test as well as he would be expected to have the same Y-DNA signature as you. 3. She just has to go to dna.ancestry.com and click on *SETTINGS on the right hand side. On the right hand side of the next page is a button entitled DOWNLOAD RAW DNA DATA. The system will then ask for her password, and ask her to to click on a waiver checkbox. Then they will email her further instructions. After she saves the file to her hard drive, then have her go to the link for Family Tree DNA: https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer On Thu, Mar 22, 2018 at 8:43 AM, Patrick R. L. Some years ago a member of GOONS very kindly furnished me with some valuable information about my family, the GELDERS. I put it all to one side for a few years and now want to get started again. Unfortunately the gentleman who gave me the information is no longer a member of GOONS and I am unable to contact him at his address. My problem is that he told me that my 4 times g grandfather was born in Huddersfield in 1804. Being a GOONS member I was sure the information would be correct. However I cannot find a birth record for him. He is called William Gelder and lived in Lindley, Huddersfield and worked in one of the mills. He married Harriet Brooke and I have their marriage details and all their children. I would like to take this back further but am at a loss as what to do next and wondered if anyone could make any suggestions. Many thanks Norrie Earl (nee Gelder)

    3. Hi Steve, I have to say that when the doorbell rang I assumed it was the usual Guild post arriving. When I looked at the envelope it was addressed to the study and all the certificates are relating to that surname and in a variety of locations across England and Wales. I do indeed appreciate whoever sent them and wish that I was in a position to acknowledge them. The post mark does not help either as it has one of the large envelop postal sticker. The contents of the certificates will be added to the Guild indexes which is what I always do with material anyway.
