Author: mwg47x Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goodrich/1367.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Yes, it must have been quite a job. The way I understand it, Case was given data by the people who hired him--The original GFA. In addition, the GFA and Case solicited information from all known Goodriches via US Mail. When a reply was received, Case took whatever information was given him at face value. His job was not one of researcher, he was strictly a compiler. He did not have the time or resources to verify the information that was given him for compilation. So if someone sent him information that was based on the prevailing "family myth" instead of fact, the myth became part of the book. Furthermore, the sheer volume of paper he must have had in his possession at the time of compilation would have been a nightmare. It is inevitable that errors in compilation would creep into the work. Yet Case did an admirable job with the materials he had. He was tasked with a difficult assignment and produced a decent work, considering what it was he had to work with, and the tools at his disposal. Author: kkrr4571 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goodrich/1367.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have her Bible which was passed from her to my Gr. Grandfather Milo, her real name is Susannah Rebecca (Hobbs) but they called her Susan. I've been completely unable to locate any Walter???? Edward was the first born 1866, Eleanor was born in 1875 and Milo 1877. Susan died when Milo was only 2 ( 1879 at age 40) and is buried with Thomas, Edward, etc. in Ford Cemetary north of Elsie where I grew up. There's also a baby buried w/ her and Thomas but the cemetary has no name or date of burial....so i'm still trying to figure out where "walter" came from or went. Also, I have Thomas is listed in Elsie records as being born in 1838, served in the civil war etc... Is it possible that the 1889 book is incorrect? Thanks for your help! I'm fairly new to this and so appreciate your response. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Their residence is given as Brunswick, OH. Cyrus was the son of Alvin son of Micah son of William son of Ephraim son of William Goodrich. It lists Thomas b. 21 Dec. 1816 & Susan (Hobbs) children but no Eleanor listed: Edward, Milo, Susan Rebecca & Walter. It could be that Eleanor was unknown at the time the book was written. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: foxxyranger Surnames: Goodrich Brown Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goodrich/1366/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to unravel a mystery of a particular mausoleum in the Erie Cemetery in Erie PA, relating to the Goodrich family. The story is getting complex in that I can't find any information on the Goodrichs. The first interment in the particular mausoleum was of GW Goodrich (George W)who died Nov 14 1884. However the mausoleum is owned by the Brown family, not the Goodrich family. I spoke with the general manager of the Cemetery, but he said the records are vague as to how it managed to become owned by the Brown family. Mary Goodrich was interred in the vault, her death date is Mar 14 1888. On Sept 14 1888, three other Goodrichs were exhumed and reinterred in the vault. They were moved from lot 23 section B of the cemetery. They were as follows: George C Goodrich (no death date) Julia A Goodrich died Mar 24 1856 "Goodrich, son of A.J.(or possibly A.C.)" The Erie Cemetery records show that mausoleum as the 'Brown vault', 'S.Brown vault', and with George's entry 'Private vault of Thomas Brown'. There are other Goodrichs in the cemetery, nearby the section that George, Julia, and 'the son' were originally buried, however, none seem to match with the family in the Brown Mausoleum. There are also two others in the vault that I don't have the names of. GW was a store owner (variety store and bakery) on State St in Erie. However, that is the only mention I can find of these particular Goodrichs in Erie. I haven't come across any genealogy references to them, only Emanuel Goodrich who was alive around the same time, but buried in the nearby location. I don't know if possibly they were brothers, but it's worth mention. If anyone has any information on these Goodrichs, I'd appreciate the help. I'm trying to track down the history of the mausoleum and the connection to the Brown family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
