Shelley, Congratulations on finding and rescuing those photos! That is a gold mine and I hope you can find a member of the family. And speaking of pictures. Does anyone on this list have any pictures of the Leedy family that married into our line through Fred Goodrich? I have a copy of the only picture that we have ever found (thank you so much to Wilma Goodrich for this). Does anyone have details about the GOODRICH family listed in these records? Note: forwarded message attached.
The New Providence church was organized August 3, 1834 in Marion County, Missouri. The first building was a frame structure built in 1842. The present (1884) structure was built in 1866 for $2,600. The first building was located in Section 24, the last on Section 11, township 59, range 8. The names of the original members are listed in the History of Marion County, MO 1884. The church was supplied with ministers from Marion College including C. Goodrich . The Rev F. R. Gray was called in 1837 and remained until 1846. This was the minister who performed the marriage of JOHN GOODRICH & EMMA E. RUTHERFORD in Lafayette County on the 22 October 1874. Anyone with access to Presbyterian church records of this period please post or contact gaeseal@sbcglobal.net
Roger's History of Mercer County, Missouri: 1859 The number of districts was reduced to four, and J.R. Clark, J.M.Sallee, Henry Neil, and J.M.Stewart were appointed assessors. From that time until the adoption of the township organization the county assessors were as follows: J.S. Dunkerson 1860-61, John R. Davis 1862, John Goodrich 1863-65, John Thogmartin 1866-69, L.N. Constable 1870-72. Anyone with connections or more information about this JOHN GOODRICH please post at goodrich@rootsweb.com or contact me at gaeseal@sbcglobal.net Shelley Cardiel <cardiels@comcast.net> wrote: I've "rescued" two old photographs of Don GOODRICH which were both taken at studios in New York State. In 1900 Don was living with his Grandparents, George W. & Eliza GOODRICH in Sandy Creek, NY. In 1920 Don J. GOODRICH was living with his wife Ethel GOODRICH in Chicago, IL, was newly married and had no children. Don's occupation was listed as a House Carpenter. In the 1930 census he (listed as James D. I don't remember the website that I got the Goodrich, MI information from! I was just doing a google search and found a website about the town. I'll try and find it again. Yes, I have a copy of the Goodrich book. I didn't think this was the same Enos because all roads point to Calvin as being my Enos's father. Calvin is buried in the Salisbury cemetery in Cass Cnty, MI along with Enos's brother Leonard. This branch of the family is very confusing. Not much documented. It's been an uphill battle to get what I have. But I found the cemetery....I found the Goodrich houses in Breedsville, MI....so I'm confident with more searching I will find the proof I need that Calvin is indeed Enos's father. I see many people suggesting folks look at the Case book, both here and on the mailing list. For those who do not have it, you can access it online at the following URL: http://www.lib.byu.edu/online.html Once you are on that page, click the "Text Collections" tab. Then click the "Family History Archive" link. If you put "Goodrich" as the surname and "Case" as the author, the Case book will be the first search result. If then scroll down to the bottom of the left side bar, you will see "Printing Version" Click the plus sign to expand that. You will then see Part 1 thru 3. If you right click those three parts individually, and click "Save Link As" or "Save target As" you can download the pdf files to your computer. Rita, Do you have or have access to "The Goodrich Family in America" by Case? On page 210 there is an interesting write-up of Levi H. Goodrich (1774-1856), the father of Enos (8-11-1813..) & Moses, Eunice, Aaron, Eliza, Levi William, John S., Reuben Pages 302-303 an interesting write-up on Enos. Pauline Goodrich Barlow
I was doing a Google search today and found the town of Goodrich, MI. The listing said: "Goodrich was started in 1835 when Enos, Moses and Levi Goodrich purchased a thousand acres here and built a cabin. The town originally was named Atlas, after the township, but Reuben Goodrich changed the name in 1849 when he became the postmaster there. It was incorporated as a village in 1957." Is this the same Enos who settled in Cass/Van Buren Cnty. area? If so he is my ggg-grandfather. Rita, what was the source you referred to about Goodrich, MI? What is the birthdate of your Enos? In the History of Genesee, Lapeer & Tuscola counties, pages 1043-1046, it says Enos Goodrich (not Reuben) was commissioned the first postmaster, in 1846, and the post-office was first known as Atlas but in 1849 its name was changed to Goodrich. This Enos Goodrich, of Goodrich, MI, went on to represent Michigan in politics. He was born 11 Aug. 1813 and is listed in our online Goodrich Family Association web site files as LWC2490. When was your Enos born, that settled in Cass/Van Buren County area?
