Elijah was buried in Kendrick Township Cemetery and his tombstone in lot 36 provides his name as Elijah H. Goodnight, his date of death as 22 Oct 1868, and his age at death as 59 years, 10 months, 21 days and it has the G.A.R. inscription which indicates he was a Union Soldier in the civil war. Elijah's date of birth computes as 1 Dec 1808. Elijah's daughter Samantha was married to Gideon H. Miller 22 Oct 1865 in Greene County Indiana. According to the history book article on Gideon, he served in Co. E 39th Iowa Infantry and was mustered out in Washington DC June 5, 1865. He went to Greene County Indiana where he married Mary Samantha Goodnight whom he had met while serving in Tennessee during the war. They moved that same year to Greene County IA. Gideon H. Miller is buried with his parents in lot 35, next to the lot where Elijah is buried. Any assistance to find the Civil War service of Elijah H. Goodnight. On 12 Sep 1883, Mr. John B. Williamson married in Jefferson to the widow Mrs. Mary S. Anderson. John B. Williamson died 12 Nov 1904 in Scranton, Greene Co., IA. He was buried in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Mary Samantha Goodnight Miller Anderson Williams died in 1919 and is also buried in the Scranton Township Cemetery. Her tombston lists only born 1847 died 1919.
