Look on the left hand side for the y database link. Then on the next page you can search either general or on surname. Clear the numbers in the table below and type in yours. Hope to hear from you when you get your results. Yes they should show a fairly close match. Maybe seven or eight generations back. We did the test through Ancestry, but they could have been a lot more informative. I have questions, when I get them all lined up I will try a phone call. For one thing, I don't see a way to match against certain names. I got the Goodnight match through a sort of back door from a message board. I am going back if I can and make it a favorite. Would you want me to send you a link? We are descended from Christian Goodnight/Susannah Barb. So there should be a fairly close match to your husband, closer than the one I found, it would seem. The one thing about this site is that apparently they don't show the number of generations back for the closest mutual ancestor. But then I am new at this. My brother had his done and is posted to Ancestry.com. I have been comparing his DNA to various family surnames. today I tried Goodnight and came up with one match, not a good one, but the only one. It had 15 of 22 markers matching. The pedigree had Olan Benton Goodnight of KY?, son of William Isaac Goodnight , grandson of Robert M. Goodnight of Muhlenburg, KY. Our line is from Christian Goodnight of Philadelphia through William Joseph Goodnight. Just curious about whether anyone else has checked their DNA. Caleb Goodnight and my g-g-grandfather (Albert G. Thompson) were friends in the Confederate army. They were in Col. Peter Mallett's battalion and participated in battles in North Carolina in December 1862. Caleb was still in Mallett's battalion when it was disbanded in June 1864. Does any one know what unit he was transfered to, whether or not he was wounded and/or captured in 1862, what his post war life was like and where he is buried? He, my gggf and several other soldiers were "messmates" at Camp Holmes, Raleigh, N.C. for most of two years. Thanks, Walter Hilderman

I'm a bit confused now. I just double checked with my Mom and she said that my GG-Grandmother was definitely a Goodnight who married a Krikbaum(sp?) and didn't know or remember either one of their first names, but the Amanda was my Great-Grandmother and her maiden name was Goodnight-Krikbaum(sp?) who married William Pearl Turner and was from the KY or TN area. But that she is sure her G-Grandmother was born in Germany and was a Goodnight. Amanda Bell (as my Mom called her) had a brother Charles Goodnight-Krikbaum and a sister, Ade Goodnight-Krikbaum. Aunt Ade married a William Baxter. My G-Grandmother had the following children with William Pearl Turner: (The Turner Children) are, Mae, William Guy, Carletta (sp?), Lois (pron, Loice), Cecil Alexander, Reeva(or Reva) and Veda Marie (my grandmother who married William Glenn McKinney from Arkansas area). Amanda Bell Goodnight-Krikbaum Turner lived in Franklin Co. MO. Later married a Fred Delhouse (or Delhousen). I don't have any dates to go by and starting such a task is difficult at best even with dates. I hope I didn't give some misinformation in the beginning, but when I saw your post on Amanda Goodnight...I sprang into action. I'm more confused than ever now. If this is any information you have, please let me know. Otherwise, I will be starting from scratch again. I'm certainly no expert here and just beginning to find out my family tree. There was some confusion about an Ozias Armer. Now she doesn't know who that could be. Thank you for your reply Jo. I've just started trying to research my family tree of the Goodnights. My Mother who is 84 now, still remembers bits and pieces. She's mentioned someone by the name of Uncle Charlie. I'm thinking she must be talking about Charles Goodnight, Jr.I don't find much information on his siblings and Amanda rarely shows up anywhere. Glad to see a post here. I believe my Great-Grandmother had 11 or 12 children. That means a lot of cousins out there and all scattered about. For the most part, since I'm just beginning here, all I can say for sure is that my Mother's side is mostly from Hannibal, MO. I believe my Mom mentioned that G-Grandma was in Illinois and Missouri. And I believe she mentioned marrying a man (Armer) from TN. I have an Auntie who has compiled our family books on various families, including the Goodnights. Unfortunately she is away for another year. She is doing missionary work in Asia, as! she is Mormon and that is one of their first order of business is to put together family tree information. But Since I can't get the information from my Auntie now, I decided to start my own research. Found your post and I suppose we go from here. I'll check the posts here from time to time to see what develops. (Thanks for your post, Brenda) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Elijah was buried in Kendrick Township Cemetery and his tombstone in lot 36 provides his name as Elijah H. Goodnight, his date of death as 22 Oct 1868, and his age at death as 59 years, 10 months, 21 days and it has the G.A.R. inscription which indicates he was a Union Soldier in the civil war. Elijah's date of birth computes as 1 Dec 1808. Elijah's daughter Samantha was married to Gideon H. Miller 22 Oct 1865 in Greene County Indiana. According to the history book article on Gideon, he served in Co. E 39th Iowa Infantry and was mustered out in Washington DC June 5, 1865. He went to Greene County Indiana where he married Mary Samantha Goodnight whom he had met while serving in Tennessee during the war. They moved that same year to Greene County IA. Gideon H. A number of people have been searching for proof of Anna Eliza's death for years. With the Family Search pilot database for TX Death Certificates coming online it has surfaced. The name on the certificate is Mrs Annie Gandy. She died on 18 Dec 1910 in Corsicana, Navarro Co, TX. Her husband, W. L. Gandy, signed the certificate. Her father is listed as E.C. Goodnight born IL, mother as Miss Donaldson born MO. Place of burial as Cameron, no funeral home is listed, could be it wasn't known when the form was completed. The family has always "said" she was buried in North Elm Cemetery, Milam Co TX, in a space next to where her husband would be buried. The clue leading me to Navarro Co was the 1910 census for same county, she and her husband, W. L. Gandy were listed as residents. He was listed without Anna in the Navarro Co 1920 census living with their daughter, Myrtle Pritchett and her family. Gayle Fuller Boggess Katy, TX
