To Lyne If you want to read a good account on Charles Goodnight, Google Goodnight Family History. The Texas Handbook has an interesting story on him. Charles married twice but never had any children. He has NO living descendants. Kenneth Goodnight, 99, a resident of Golden Heights Personal Care Home, Harrison City, formerly of Turtle Creek and Jeannette, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011. He was born Feb. 8, 1912, in Fairmont, W.Va., a son of the late Ross and Nellie Baker Goodnight. Prior to his retirement, Ken was employed by Westinghouse Electric, in East Pittsburgh. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the rank of master sergeant in the Army. Ken was a member of Ascension Church, VFW Post 8240, and a regular at Nancy's Coffee Shop, all of Jeannette. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Julia Zellonis Goodnight, in 1999; a son, Donald Long; two grandsons, Kenneth and Christopher Long; a brother, Rex Goodnight; and a sister, Virginia "Dee" Horton. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Woloshun and husband, John, of Jeannette; four grandchildren, Terry Woloshun and wife Heidi, Jeremy Woloshun and wife Marianne, Pamela Birr and husband Jack, and Heather Long; four great-grandchildren, Dimitri, Nikolai, Noah and Roman Woloshun; and several nieces and nephews. But because he doesn't seem to have any further connection with that branch of the family after the initial immagration, I tend to believe he was not a brother but maybe a distant relative. On page 20 of the phamphlet he said, "It would seem unnecessary to attempt to bolster up the history of the Goodnight family in America with the exaggerated claims found in the old tales. The true story is a thoroughly creditable one. Michael and George Goodnight, brothers - and this does not preclude the possibility that Christian, who came in 1749, may also have been a brother - came to America before the French and Indian War." Stephen William Goodnight, a descendant of George, wrote in a letter, dated December 24 1883; "You informed me that your friend had found a family of our name and that he desired that I should give some information of the family which I will give as I received it. There were two gentlemen and their wives came across the Sea from Germany of the name of Goodknigh! t and located in North Carolina. One was named John the other George." Stephen William was a grandson of George and probably received his information from his father Michael. The information posted by me, in the original post, was obtained from the Church Records and the Stammtafeln of Bischweiller Germany. The records are available from the nearest Family History Library of the LDS Church and are; "Evangelisch Reformierte Kirche Bischweiller 1710-1746 and Bischweiller Stammtafeln Band V and VI."
