Alberto Sr. possessed a sixth grade education, yet he possessed a tremendous entrepreneurial spirit that his family would later inherit. Over a period of time, he learned to become a great insurance salesman and later a highly successful independent real estate investor. This success established his family's goals for his children: a better education, a better life, and most importantly, a dream that his sons would also become independent businessmen. Albert Jr. - the oldest son - and Frank, both obtained the first González family goal, a strong education in the Dallas parochial school system. Albert later graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science and Frank graduated from Southern Methodist University. With strong educational backgrounds and solid Dallas roots, the González sons, with their father's advice, direction, and motivation, entered the mortuary business in 1977. Alberto Sr. realized that the Hispanic community in Dallas was not receiving the quality of service and care that it deserved. He envisioned a market that was about to explode in size and soon become truly Hispanic, not just of Mexican descent. This void in funeral service for the Hispanic community became the cornerstone for Albert Jr. and Frank to develop González Funeral Home Inc. into not only the largest and oldest Hispanic - owned mortuary in the Dallas - Ft. Worth area, but one of the largest independently - owned firms in North Texas. Expanding in size and service, the González brothers recognized the unique cultural, economic, and religious needs of the Hispanic community. The strong family ties of the González upbringing became the springboard for providing integrity and quality service. This is what familia creates for a successful business. Today, nearly 25 years later Alberto Sr. and Paula remember those early days in Dallas with pride and now see their grandchildren carry out the mission side-by-side with their fathers. Family Owned vs. Corporate Owned You can find them on New York's Wall Street. You can find us on Stemmons Freeway. The fact that the companies who control other area funeral homes are listed on the stock exchange means something. It means they answer to their stockholders, not our community. It also means, that to keep their stockholders happy, they often may have to resort to extremes to keep their trading value high. Not Us. At González Funeral Home, we answer only to you We always have.
