"Blackie" Gonzalez (May 14, 1933-January 2, 2008) Dr. Gonzalez was born on May 14, 1933 and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Blackie served honorably as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army. He taught IBM courses at the college of Santa Fe and then opened his own IBM Training School. Blackie and his brother, George, went into partnership with the former Governor John Burroughs of New Mexico and together they owned and operated KDCE, a bilingual radio station in Espanola, New Mexico. As an entrepreneur Blackie ran a number of businesses over the years including KAFE AM and FM radio stations, an art gallery, gas stations and restaurants. Blackie had a tremendous love and appreciation for the state of New Mexico and a special love for Santa Fe, the city of holy faith. In 2006, Blackie received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Prior to this he attended the College of Santa Fe and attended Trinity Theolog! ical Seminary in Albuquerque. He was Founder-President and CEO of Son Broadcasting Network, which owns KCHF TV, Pan American Broadcasting Company, which owns KDAZ Radio, Partnership in Belmax Broadcasting and Health Tech Inc. Blackie served on a number of boards and associations including the Presidents Council and Board of Directors for the National Religious Broadcasters, Vice President of ACTS, an association of Christian Television Broadcasters, New Mexico State Director of C.U.F.I. Christians United for Israel, Board of Embassy for Peace and Religious Freedom, a national prayer ministry in Washington, DC., and served on the Board of Directors of the NRB Television Satellite Network. Blackie had a special love for Israel. He dedicated his life in support of the state of Israel and the Jewish people. A few of the organizations that benefited are the Jewish Federation, Hadassah Hospital, Bikkor Cholim Hospital, Hatzolah-Israel's First Responders, Magen David Adom, Israel ! Ministry of Tourism and others. Over the years, Blackie initiated proj ects that financially supported Israel in times of need. In 2007, Blackie was recognized and honored at the annual New Mexico Israel Bonds dinner. Blackie's greatest desire in life was to love and serve God with all his heart, and to see others experience the same love, joy and peace that he experienced through his relationship with Jesus Christ. On New Year's Eve Blackie had a massive stroke. On Wednesday, January 2, 2008 the Lord called his faithful son and servant home. Blackie is preceded in death by his first wife, Angie; and son, Gary ; daughter, Cordelia. He is survived by his second wife, Joanna; his son, Ted and wife Pamela Gonzales; daughter, Mary Kay Gonzales; daughter, Vickie Archiveque and husband Anthony; daughter, Annette Garcia and husband Jim,; stepsons: Jhett Browne and wife Jolyn, Lance Browne and wife Melissa; sixteen grandchildren: Jennifer, Jeffrey, Teddy and Tyler Gonzales, Jacqui Boyd, Jeremiah Saiz, Quinten Archiveque, Michelle Garcia, Jamie Lujan, T! iffany, Bailee and Jhett Kendall Browne, Brittany, Brandon, Brieanna and Brooke Browne; and one great grandchild, Noah Browne; brothers: George Gonzales and wife Celine, Jose Gonzales and wife Mary; and sister-in-law, Josie Gonzales; and many other close relatives whom he loved very much. A private funeral service and burial will be held for the family. A Special Memorial Service will take place at 10 am on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Calvary of Albuquerque located at 4001 Osuna Road, NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in honor and memory to Son Broadcasting, the Christian Television Ministry Blackie founded, which will continue to propagate the gospel until Jesus returns.
