He was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Santa Fe. He grew up with his brothers in what was known as the Village of Cienegitas, the neighborhood directly across from Frenchy's Park on Auga Fria. He graduated from Santa Fe High School. He served in the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne and received an honorable discharge from the Airborne on Aug. 8, 1954. He was a member of the Rakkasans 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team Association of Southern California, Chapter 1. He retired after 28 years of employment with the Garrett Airsearch in California. After his retirement and until his recent illness, he was an active Realtor and broker for Bankers Realty in Torrance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro 'Alex' and Porfiria Gonzales; and sister-in-law, Angie Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine 'Jo' Gonzales, formerly of Santa Fe and now ! of Torrance, Calif.; his daughters, Anna and husband Don Sutton, Diana and husband Tae Yi, and Tina and husband Lance Hare all from California; five grandchildren; his brothers, Jose Gonzales and wife Mary, Belarmino 'Blackie' Gonzales, and George A. Gonzales and wife Celina; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Berardinelli Family Funeral Service.
