He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, friend y compadre. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carmen Romero Gonzales of the family home; son, Michael S. Gonzales and fiancé, Eleanor Lujan of Albuquerque; daughters, Consuelo A. Vigil and husband, Michael of Las Vegas, NM and Cindy Gonzales of Denver, CO; one brother, Carmen Gonzales and wife, Lena of Albuquerque; two sisters, Dolores Pyle and husband, Charles of Albuquerque and Rita Valdez and husband, Roger of Las Vegas, NM; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special uncle, Manuel Gonzales; aunt, Carlie Gonzales; uncles, Donaciano and Albert Gonzales. Robert is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. He was born on May 8, 1947 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Robert was a member ! of The Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post #72. He was a member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Albuquerque. Robert retired from the Gas Company of New Mexico. He proudly served in the U.S. Army transportation unit during the Vietnam Era and received several medals throughout his tour. Robert is preceded in death by his father, Carmel on July 8, 1975 and by his mother, Maria Martinez Gonzales on February 16, 1998, and by his brother-in-law, Paul Arguello and his mother-in-law, Annie Romero. Rosary will be recited on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel with Rose Romero, reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be, Raymond Gonzales, Roger J. Valdez, Paul Arguello, Jr., Glenn Pyle, Fred Romero and Lawrence Gallegos. H! onorary pallbearers will be Robert's grandchildren, Nicole, Paul and Samantha Vigil and Tiffany Gonzales. Friends may visit French Mortuary on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until time of Rosary.
