He was born July 27, 1908, to the late Regino Gonzales and Remedio Coriz Gonzales. He married Martina Gonzales on Sept. 16, 1929, in Chapertio. He served in World War II as a U.S. Army private. He retired from Las Vegas City Schools after 15 years as a janitor. He was a leathersmith and rancher and enjoyed cooking, rock work, telling stories and listening to stories. He was a lifelong Catholic and belonged to Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Rufino Gonzales and Reynaldo Gonzales; sister, Rosa Martinez; grandsons, Martin Ortega, Ross Roy Gonzales and Michael Ortega. He is survived by daughters, Josie Contreras, Mary Ludi and husband Leonard, all of Las Vegas, N.M., Sophia Ortega and husband Joe of Santa Fe; sons, Lorenzo Gonzales and wife Eva, Rosendo Gon! zales Jr. and wife Clara, Arturo Gonzales and wife Josie, all of Las Vegas, N.M., Bernardo Gonzales and wife Lilly of Walking B Ranch, David E. Gnzales anad wife Annamae of Albuquerque; niece raised as sister, Trini Martinez and husband Pete of Las Vegas, N.M., 35 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Services have been held with interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Rogers Mortuary.
