Seem to me that your grandfather was the same age as my father. I have cousins that probably be the age of your father. I was hoping that you might ask your relatives if they knew my branch of the Gonzales family. Names of my cousins are: Manuel, Edward(nickname Blackie), Lupe, Jose, Abel, Bonificio(nickname Barney). There are many more. These people are now are in their late 70s early 80s. Would you please ask your father and uncle if they knew these people and if they did, if they ever heard what part of Mexico they were from. The last Gonzales left in Gonzales was my cousin Manuel who died recently. He lived on St. Lawrence street. Anxious for your reply. Hope

I too have family in Gonzales, Texas with the surname Gonzales. My father Jesus Gonzales was raised in Gonzales around 1908. His parents were Pablo Gonzales and Maxima (maiden name Losoya). According to the 1910 census they lived on St. John Street. Siblings of my father were Alvaro, Pablo, Jose, Ignacio, Cirelio, Guadalupe (married to Bonificio Guerrero) and Maria Luisa. Do any of these names sound familiar. I understand that some how there was a relation to the Eduardo Estrada family. These families came from Mexico but there seems to be a debate as to what part of Mexico. I have always been told that we are of Mexican decent but not sure of that either. I am anxious to hear from you whether to see if there is a connection.

I don't have any direct information on the family for you because the information I have would probably be for earlier generations than that of your grandparents. Hillsboro is in Sierra County in NM in the Black Range foothills on NM 152, 17 mi W of Caballo (according to p. 166, Robert Julyan's book, Place Names of New Mexico). The same source (p.145) notes that Garfield is in Dona Ana County on NM 187, 9 mi NW of Hatch. The town originally had a Spanish name "Loma Parda" (gray hill). Perhaps you could post to those two New Mexico county boards on RootsWeb and see if someone can help you with records from those counties. Best wishes in your search. Gloria
