He was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Santa Fe. He grew up with his brothers in what was known as the Village of Cienegitas, the neighborhood directly across from Frenchy's Park on Auga Fria. He graduated from Santa Fe High School. He served in the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne and received an honorable discharge from the Airborne on Aug. 8, 1954. He was a member of the Rakkasans 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team Association of Southern California, Chapter 1. He retired after 28 years of employment with the Garrett Airsearch in California. After his retirement and until his recent illness, he was an active Realtor and broker for Bankers Realty in Torrance. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro 'Alex' and Porfiria Gonzales; and sister-in-law, Angie Gonzales. He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine 'Jo' Gonzales, formerly of Santa Fe and now ! of Torrance, Calif.; his daughters, Anna and husband Don Sutton, Diana and husband Tae Yi, and Tina and husband Lance Hare all from California; five grandchildren; his brothers, Jose Gonzales and wife Mary, Belarmino 'Blackie' Gonzales, and George A. Gonzales and wife Celina; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., and a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He was born July 27, 1908, to the late Regino Gonzales and Remedio Coriz Gonzales. He married Martina Gonzales on Sept. 16, 1929, in Chapertio. He served in World War II as a U.S. Army private. He retired from Las Vegas City Schools after 15 years as a janitor. He was a leathersmith and rancher and enjoyed cooking, rock work, telling stories and listening to stories. He was a lifelong Catholic and belonged to Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Rufino Gonzales and Reynaldo Gonzales; sister, Rosa Martinez; grandsons, Martin Ortega, Ross Roy Gonzales and Michael Ortega. He retired from the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, NM with over 24 years of dedicated service, and where he spent his last two weeks of life with his loving family beside him at all times. Jerry was a hard working and devoted husband and father who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a member of the San Clemente Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, Elias and Margarita Gonzales; and his two sons, Billy and Jerry Lee Gonzales. GONZALES , 88, died Tuesday at La Vida Hermosa in Santa Fe. He was born on the family ranch in El Macho, in the upper Pecos river canyon in San Miguel County to Pablita Rivera and Geronimo Gonzales. Growing up on the family ranch, he helped his parents raising livestock and building a solid ranch life. He attended the Pecos school system, leaving the family ranch to live with relatives in Pecos, and eventually graduating first in his class. He witnessed the boom and bust of the Terrero mine, and participated in the civic life of his adopted city, Santa Fe. He was a self-educated man with a passion for reading, politics and ranching. Upon arriving in Santa Fe in the midst of the Great Depression, he convinced a reluctant employer to hire him at no salary for one week as a test of his abilities. During his career he was employed as an accountant and manager for Bryne Petroleum Co., United Van Lines, Chama Valley Bus Line, The Española Telephone Co. and! the Los Alamos Building and Loan in Española. He was also a devoted member of St. Francis Cathedral parish, a life member of The Knights of Columbus and a lector at daily Mass for many years. He purchased a ranch in the upper Pecos on Grass Mountain and with his father and brothers built a thriving cattle and horse business, and rode the trails of the nearby Pecos Wilderness. He was a Rotarian, a founding member of the San Miguel Sheriff's Posse/Pecos Branch, and a life-long Republican. He married Eufemia Vigil of Pecos in 1940. She preceded him in death in 1993. Also preceding him in death were his parents; his sisters, Dolores Gonzales and Melinda Gonzales Gallegos; brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Vigil, Trinidad Gallegos, Desiderio Vigil and Joe Azua. He is survived by his children, Joseph and wife Bernadette Bransford Gonzales, Elizabeth Chapman and husband Patrick, Theresa Connaughton and husband Martin; and Florentino, Jr. and wife Kas L. of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Si! lviano Gonzales and wife Velta of Broomfield, Colo., Geronimo (Jerry) Gonzales and wife Stella Tapia of Santa Fe, and Ricardo Gonzales of Grass Mountain; sister, Polly Gonzales Kennedy and husband Jim of Los Alamos; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives. Gonzales, 65, was called by our Lord to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Roy is survived by his beloved family, wife Emma, sons Paul Gonzales and wife Karen from Corrales, Daniel Gonzales from Rio Rancho, and his grandson James Gonzales form Corrales. Also surviving are his mother Inez Gonzales from Albuquerque, his sister Adelina Cordova and husband Joe from Albuquerque, brothers Eddie Gonzales and wife Irene, and Bevian Gonzales from Phoenix, AZ, Lee Gonzales and fiancée Linda from Albuquerque, Morris Gonzales and wife Katy from Albuquerque, a very special friend Michelle Saenz, and may relatives and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his father Eduardo Gonzales, sister Dulcinea Gonzales, and brother Horacio Gonzales. Roy was born on May 7, 1937 in Ft. Sumner, NM. Joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958. He joined the Albuquerque Fire Department in 1959 and, after 26 years! of dedicated service, retired in 1985 as Assistant Chief (Fire Marshall). During his firefighting career, Roy earned his Bachelors Degree in Public Administration at the University of Albuquerque, and his Masters Degree from the University of New Mexico. He also taught Fire Technology at the University of Albuquerque. In 1986 Roy and Emma retired to Bernalillo where they have lived for the past 15 years. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, whom he was very proud of. His grandson, James was his pride and joy. He was able to travel to many countries, making friends everywhere he went. After a courageous battle with his illness, the Angels came to get him, much sooner than we planned. God has him back again and our memories are what will sustain us until we meet again. We will love and remember him forever. Rosary will be recited by Fr. Bill Sanchez on Monday, April 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass will be celebrat! ed on April 15 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Virgil Furfuro officiating and Fr. Bill Sanchez as co-celebrant. Before moving to Las Vegas, N.M., he also served as mayordomo at San Augustine Parish. He was also a member of the San Miguel sheriff posse for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucy Gaillour-Gonzales; brother, Rufino and wife Margarita Gonzales; sister, Rosa and husband Fidel Martinez; sisters-in-law, Martina Gonzales and Emily Shahoin and husband Leo; brothers-in-law, Frank Galindre and Mike Rodgers; and one grandson, ! Lee Randall Roybal. He is survived by his two daughters, Lorraine Roybal and husband Tony, and Dolores Sanchez and husband Lawrence; three sons, Reynaldo Gonzales Jr. and wife Virginia, William Gonzales and Ginny Johnson, and Ronald Gonzales and Cathy Martinez; brother, Rosendo Gonzales; 29 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends. Robert retired from the Gas Company of New Mexico. He proudly served in the U.S. Army transportation unit during the Vietnam Era and received several medals throughout his tour. Robert is preceded in death by his father, Carmel on July 8, 1975 and by his mother, Maria Martinez Gonzales on February 16, 1998, and by his brother-in-law, Paul Arguello and his mother-in-law, Annie Romero. A Raymond Gonzales, born in 1910 had a sister named Beatrice, now deceased and a brother still alive in Colorado. They lived in Pueblo, Co. Raymond Gonzales married Della Diaz. They lived in Walsenburg. We are currently looking for his grandchildren. They are the children of his son, Pete. Pete Gonzales had three children from his mariage to Marie Downey (of Illiniois). The children's names are Pete Jr., Della, and Raymond Gonzales.They were born in Saacramento, California. Pete, the father, died in November, 1987. We are having a family Reunion in August 2003. It is so important to get any information about them.
