    3. A.Nathan Goldstein was born in Prussia 1836 [ Kepno in the province of Poznan] and was in Oroville, CA by 1852. He came to USA the year after his 3-year older brother Abraham arrived. Nathan married Ernestina Asher (born 1849 also Poznan) . By 1867 they owned A.Goldstein & Bro. dry goods and clothing . They split around end of 1870s . Abraham Goldstein was born 1834; between 1861-1864 married Sarah R. (Rose?) Goldberg (born NY 1850, mother born NY, father born Prussia) and produced Lulu Rose (Yinna) b.1865 (who married Bernard Ephraim in 1881, Samuel A. 1867, Leon A. 1869, Milton 1871, Violet C. (Lotte?) 1873, Blanche 1875, Walter P. 1878, and a daughter 1888. A Chinese male 'servant' cooked for them named Ah Gim, born Canton . Abraham moved to San Francisco early in 1870s but probably back ~1885. If anyone knows about any of these, but especially Sarah Goldberg from New York, I would appreciate hearing from them. 1. [GOLDBERG] Looking for family of Jack Davies (was probably Goldberg)
    2. I am looking for members of my family. My grandfather changed his name from Goldberg to Davies, apparently because Davies was closer to the original, Davidovitch (from Roumania). However, Grandpa was a bit of a storyteller, and after much proding my father tells me he may have changed his name to avoid antisemitism. They moved from New York to Hendersonville, North Carolina when my father, Zachary Marvin (Zulka Meyer) was about 2 years old, probably 1939. He had two brothers, Charles and Irving, and two sisters, Betty (or Bessie) and Sidney. His father's name was Zulka Meyer Davidovitch (probably in the Old County) and Goldberg (changed at Ellis Island.). If anyone has any information about my family, I'd love to correspond! Miri Pardo

    3. Hi all, RootsWeb has announced that they will be down for planned maintenance beginning at 8 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on Friday, February 23 (4:00 PM GMT/UT on 02/23, 11:00 AM Eastern Standard Time 02/23). The duration of the maintenance is expected to be about 24 hours or so. It is better to BE a good ancestor than to FIND one. Take a descendant to do something fun. Remind yourselves why you picked the persons you did to "be ancestors with." For the younger crowd, maybe even work on the "being ancestors" part <grin>. If that person is no longer with you, remember them as they were at their best. Forgive someone who needs it (everybody does). Telephone a friend that you haven't talked to in ages. Perform random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty. Sleep in. Write a letter-no, the other kind, ink on paper, that can be treasured for years. Take an *ancestor* to do something fun. For most of the suggested activities, please feel free to substitute aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, unrelated neighbors or friends, or people at the homeless shelter. 3. Posted on: GOLDBERG Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/g/o/GOLDBERG/obituaries/3 Surname: GOLDBERG, PEPPER ------------------------- Published in the Guadalajara Reporter newspaper, Guadalajara, Mexico. Stanley Goldberg 13-May-2000 Stanley Goldberg, who died in a Guadalajara hospital last weekend, was born in Denver, Colorado, October 8, 1926. The youngest of four children born to Russian immigrant parents, Goldberg graduated from Hild's Business College in San Francisco, California before joining the U.S. Navy and serving in World War II and the Korean War. After completing his military service, Goldberg went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad as an executive secretary to the chief engineer, a position which demanded constant travel. During the 1960s, Goldberg lived in Sausalito, California, and spent his "off" time raising and showing Old English sheep dogs and Persian cats, producing several national and international champions, and even showing at the prestigious Westminister Dog Show in Madison Square Garden. In 1971, he moved to Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands, off the coast of Spain and also lived in Barcelona, Spain, and in Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Already intensely interested in birds, Goldberg was one of the original organizers and eventually the curator of Palmitos Park, on the southern part of Grand Canary Island. The park is a wildbird sanctuary and an exotic arboretum, much of which was planted under his supervision or with his own hands. Goldberg arrived in Ajijic in 1980 with dogs and birds in tow and found the property on 16 de Septiembre where he resided until his death. In his first years here, he was known as "Stan the Birdman." Longtime residents recall that he always graciously opened the gate to those interested in seeing his exotic menagerie. He was always helpful and interested in the community and had a great gift for communicating across national, racial, religious, class or gender boundaries. Perhaps Goldberg's greatest legacy will be the Music Appreciation Society (MAS), which for many years he ran almost single-handedly. He had a grand passion for music and spared nothing of himself to make sure that good musical events were available to the community. MAS grew under his supervision from a casual organization with a handful of patrons to the 300-plus season ticket holders it has today. It was largely because of his passion and energy that concert attendance grew from a sprinkling to the 450-seat full houses experienced by local concert-goers in recent years. Until her death in 1998, Goldberg was especially close to his sister, Annlee Pepper. Goldberg is survived by eight nieces and nephews in the United States, his English Mastiff "Napo," his Brazilian Hyacinth Macaw "Midnight," and many friends who will miss his kindness and laughter. Many of Goldberg's friends have already donated money to start a scholarship fund for talented music students. A memorial program will take place Sunday, June 10, 7 p.m. at La Floresta Auditorium. (JC)
