He was a shoemaker by trade although he worked at the London docks in the 1930s. One of his sons was Lou Goldberg who died a few year ago. At one time he was deputy mayor of the London Borough of Hackney.

    3. dont get your hopes up but this might be worth somthing Abraham Goldstein b. 1834 (Kepno?, Posnan, Prussia) came to Oroville, California 1851 with brother Nathan and married Sarah Rose Goldberg born 1845 in New York city of parents both born in Prussia. She must have come to Oroville, CA (via San Francisco?) around 1864 and married Abraham Goldstein at that time to have children aged as they were. Dont know her parents' names. First son named Samuel so her father might have been named Samuel. Other sons named Leon, Milton, Walter; daughters named Lulu, Violet, Blanche, Vivian. Abraham died 2 April 1907 in San Francisco at the home of his son Leon. Goldberg, Sarah Rose born 3Nov1845 19 June 1922 SF first records in CA ~1864 I think her father might have been Israel. Mr. Goldberg was dead by the 1880 census, but his wife and daughters were living in New York City, New York County, NY. There is a Bertha Goldberg, widow of a Julius Goldberg, in the 1890 New York City Directory, but I don't know if Julius is the Mr. Goldberg I am looking for. Bertha's daughter, Emma Married Jacob Speyer in Manhattan in 1890. In 1900 Bertha Goldberg and her daughter Jennie or Jenny were living with Emma and Jacob Speyer in Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ. I do not have access to the 1910 census index and have not requested a look-up, so I have been unable to find the Speyer or Goldberg family in 1910. According to her obituary in 1916 Emma Goldberg Speyer was laid to rest in Jersey City beside her mother and two children. Russia Rose 19, b. Virginia Ida 17 b. Maryland Cecelia 16 b. Maryland Reuben 13 b. Pa Louis 11, b. Pa Sophie 8 b. Pa Martin 6, b. Pa. Minnie died in 1914. Did Simon re-marry and to whom? As per the 1900 federal census for Jersey City, Hudson County, NJ, Emma Goldberg and her husband Jacob H. Speyer were living at 118 Bowes Street, along with their two sons, Walter and Arthur, who were born in New York. Emma's Mother, Bertha Goldberg was living in the Speyer household along with another daughter Jennie Goldberg. Emma Goldberg was born in February of 1868 in New York. Bertha was born was born in April of 1832 in Germany and Jennie was born in March of 1860 in Massachusetts. Bertha Goldberg's parents were both born in Germany. I do not know Bertha's maiden name. I do not know the first name of Bertha's husband and Emma and Jennie's father, but he was also born in Germany, according to the 1900 census. Thanks so much for your help!
