    2. Louis
    3. Dear Goldberg list, I am looking for my great-grandfather's brother, MORRIS GOLDBERG, who I believe settled in CONNECTICUT around 1905 and may have first settled in NY. His wive's name may have been Rebecca. His birth name was Moishe Bolda (or Morris Bolda) and changed his name to Goldberg, upon reaching the USA. He was born in village of Lyubcha (Lubch) in the the MINSK Gubernia of Russia. Morris had the following relatives (maybe they sound familiar to someone): HARRY & ESTER COHEN of Troy, NY GOLDBERG cousins in HOUSTON and GALVESTON, TEXAS. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know . I would be very grateful. If any Goldberg family from Connecticut wants to talk to see if we can find a connection, that would be great! Thank you, Louis Loccisano

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FOZ.2ACEB/173.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Probably Brest Litovsk, as in the Jewish cemetary of Norwich Ct, used also by the Jews from Westerly, (which was located near or in Preston, Ct) there is a tombstone for Harry (Shmuel Yitzchak) Goldberg, son of Pinkhas, who died October 11, 1918 at age 25, with the notation in Hebrew, "Yeled" or "Nolad" (can't read my own handwriting!) Brisk d'Lite, which translates as a son of Brisk d'lite which is the Jewish name for Brest-Litovsk. Pinkas wife, Miriam, was my parternal grandfather's sister and said grandfather was always desribed as coming from Kobrin and Brest-Litovsk -- I am assuming that he was born in one and migrated to the other at some time. All 40 or so original Jewish families were related in one way or another. As a child I had heard that this one came to Westerly because of that relative who was already there. The argument for Kobrin is that there is another tombstone for one of the Soloveitchiks (spelling?) which describes the young man, again in Hebrew, as being "a son of Kobrin." I am not much into doing much geneology, but I am particularly interested in finding any descendents of Pinkhas Goldberg to express my eternal gratitude to him for one act of kindess done to me when I was very, very little (and which probably saved my life). I have written it up as a little vignette which I would be happy to send to any Goldberg descentdent who sends me an email offline (I do not know how to post it to this message board, or if it is even possible. Do you know what shtetl your Goldberg ancestors are from? Mine were from Lyubcha, Minsk, Belarus. And I found out that the original name was BOLDA or BOLDO. This was when I found their passenger list of my grandmother to Galveston, Texas. They also had Cohen cousins in New York. I wish I knew more. Please let me know if this sounds familiar.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Goldberg, Halbreich, Galbreich, Luban, Danning, Diamondstein, Misroch Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FOZ.2ACEB/130.3 Message Board Post: I am not sure if this connects to either Goldberg family I am looking for. One came from Russia (Rezekne area, now Latvia) and moved to NYC. This family would include a Jospeh Berl Goldberg who died in 1918 in New York. Their name probably was once Halbreich (German), was changed to Galbreich in Russia, then Goldberg in the US. His wife was Sheina Maltinsky, though I am not sure if her name changed in the US. She died in 1940 in Brooklyn. One of their children, Esther (hebrew name Menucha) married Henry Luban in Rezekne then moved to Milwaukee, perhaps via New York City. I am looking for information on Joseph Berl Goldberg and his parents and I have information on Sheina's family as well as the children of Esther/Menucha and Henry Luban's family. The other Goldberg family came from either Russia or Poland and settled in Philadelphia. A Jennie Goldberg from there married David Danning. Jennie might have been born in Philly around 1879 and died in California in 1983. David's original name is unknown (he picked "Danning" up along the way), but he was born in the 1870's in Daugavpils, then Russia, now Latvia, left for Argentina in the 1880's, made his way to Philladelphia in the early 1900's, married Jennie Goldberg and they moved to California before 1924. He died around 1928. I have information on Jennie and David's children, but I am looking for information on Jennie's family as well as information on David's original name.

Surnames: Galbreich, Halbreich, Goldberg, Luban Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FOZ.2ACEB/174 Message Board Post: I recently discovered part of my family that links into a lineage listed on this sites "World Connect" section. It involves a "Minnie Galbreich" married to a Luban. The name Galbraich or Galbreich (originaly German Halbreich?) was changed to Goldberg in the US when "Minnie's" parents moved to the US. Minnie (really Menucha) herself was a Luban (married to Henry Luban) by then and although her parents stayed in New York City, Minnie moved to Milwaukee with Henry and his brother Solomon and took the name Esther. Esther and Henry's children and grandchildren still mostly live in Milwaukee. Solomon was my great-grandfather. I am interested in whoever put the Minnie Galbeich/Goldberg lineage on world connect since we would be distantly related. We can perhaps pool information. I can certainly fill in the children of Minnie and Henry Luban as well as some of their grandchildren.
