    1. [GOHR]Welcome to the gohr Group
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. https://Groups.io/g/gohr Welcome to Groups.io, our new home for genealogical discussions. This is an exciting time with a very impressive website and the opportunity to rekindle our communications and, perhaps, revive research that has been set aside for a time. Diane and I want to encourage you to make us of this group with your brick walls, successes, questions and whatever answers you may have for others' queries. To begin with, introductions are encouraged, including some history about yourself etc. If we can feel like a "family" we might get more out of being here. We definitely do not want to make this such a strict environment that you are discouraged from entering or starting discussions. If you on the Rootsweb list have not yet joined at groups.io, simply click on the link at top of this message and click "Join This Group." We want you to enjoy being a part of this group and to be glad you joined in the first place. If you have other group connections where you may spread the word about us that will be great as well. Looking forward to hearing from you all, Jim "Pops" Jackson and Diane Sowden

    1. [GOHR]Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team We are presently setting up email groups at https://groups.io/. If there is interest in migrating this list to groups.io please respond to this message to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [GOHR]Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes, Jim and Di

I recall Bertha visiting us in Houston when I was a child. I'm interesting in finding out about Edith's ancestors as I have little information about them but believe that there is a German family bible with an ancestral tree that I would be interested in finding out more about. I'm guessing that this message is from Bruce or Glenda? Thanks, Mary Jane Welsh Towle Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He died several years before I was born, and the only one of his kids I knew of and met was Bertha Otilee Gohr. She lived in El Monte, Ca., and was a stunt person who worked on the old Johnny Weismueller Tarzan movies. She died in the late 60's or early 70's. I met her only once when she had come to Texas with Marie Gohr O'Dell, her cousin who lived in Olney, Texas. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: dmacdumes Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gohr/23.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have some Gohrs but I'm not sure whether they're related to yours. Mine is Wilhelm Robert Otto Gohr, born 1857 in Nippoglense, Kreis Stolp, Pommern, now Poland. He came to Chicago in 1881 and married Laura Kramp there in 1881. Wilhelm may have had a brother or cousin, Albert Gohr, who came to Chicago a few years earlier. For Juliana, you may want to try to find a church record for her marriage. The civil record is helpful but the church record may have information about her birth town. 1. Edward Gohr (1856-1939) married Amelia Glink (1864-1948) in Germany
    2. Daniel Houghtaling
    3. This couple emigrated to Bay County, Michigan and began their family which includes Clara, Emma, Charles, Minah, Robert, Frank, Reinhold, Louis, Emil and Arthur. Can anyone on this site connect Edward Gohr to their line? Have been unable to determine siblings or parents of either individual or even to determine with any certainty their home in Germany. Amelia may have been from Eichenberg but this is just speculation.

Have you tried ordering Edward's or Amelia's death certificates to see whether there's any indication of their birth town? Marriage records for their children suggest that Amelia's surname was Glinke or Glenke. Do you have this info? I checked the passenger manifest for their 1884 immigration but it just says Germany. I have her name on my grandfather's birth certificate (Dale Lawrence Gohr). Della was born in 1898 in Nebraska and died in 1972 in California. Her SSN was 560-10-7958 according to the California Death index. I don't really know anything about her parents but am working on finding some stuff out. The only official record I have of her is my grandfather's birth certificate. Just wanted to let you know. Thank you for all your hard work. Is there any way to go further back than Carl Gohr and Anna Zutz? Just curious. I also have a pic of Charles and Emma's gravestone if you'd like. Have a good day. Thanks again for your webpage and all the info. Brandi Tremmel
