In Box 56, 1786, I found a court case in which a John Goff sued Leonard Hall for payment for the services which Baldwin provided him, like: "making a pear of {horse} shues, nailing on two pear of shues,....upsetting 2 matocks,...mending a clevis,...sharpening a plane,...mending a pan, 300 tacks, 900 tacks,.... upsetting 2 hoes, etc." And on the back of the page: "making a case of knives and forks". Clevis = a U-shaped metal connector within which another part can be fastened by means of a bolt or pin passing through the ends of the connector. I thought that you might like to know that a John Goff was a blacksmith in Bedford County and to view one of his account statements. I have attached a photograph of the document.
