Here is why... Jerena and Ezra Byrd, who were living in Texas at the time, "took in" Hiram about age 9 and William Brewster about age 3 upon the the death of the boys parents in Sabine or Natchitoches Parish Louisiana. I know this because of what my grandmother told me about this event and confirmation in the difference between the 1860 census showing Hiram and William along with brother Andrew still living with their parents and the 1870 census showing the boys living with Ezra and Jerena Byrd. I know back then it was customary for relatives to "take in" children of relatives if the parents died. So I am looking to see if Hiram and William's mother Muretta Jeneta or Jereta (no last name mentioned) is a relative of either Ezra Byrd or Jerena Goff. Hiram is my great great grandfather. and is buried in Rock Prairie Missionary Baptist church, North Zulch,Madison Co.,Tx. Hiram's only son John Joseph ! "Joe" Brewster is also buried in the same cemetery. Joe's oldest daughter from his first marriage is Rosa "Rosie" Ora Brewster is my grandmother and her youngest son RV Grimes is my Dad.
