They were listed in adjacent households in both the 1850 and 1860 census (probably the same census information noted in the original post). Also Freeman's son Ernest's middle name was Seth. Side note - my father's (Ernest's grandson) middle name is Ernest. I see this pattern in several spots in the Goff line and it's probably common for a lot of families but it is a clue I think. I found a 1840 census listing a Seth Goff in New York with a family of 6 but the document is very faded and there is little else I can see. I am currently stuck on this question, which is what brought me to this board... the question of "Where did this Freeman Goff come from?"
