According to Grandpa's Bible, William Monty Goff & Rebecca Gover married Nov. 20, 1853. Richard was born August 4, 1855. Rebecca apparently died August 20, 1857, and their second son, Samuel died shortly thereafter. There is a marriage record for William and Lucinda Cash in the Indexes for Feb. 14, 1859. William and Lucinda had at least one child named Andrew, after whom my grandfather may have been named. My Grandfather was Andrew M. Goff - born to Richard and Mary Ellen Stephens, June 28, 1892. Richard and Mary also had a daughter, Icy May. Richard was married prior to Mary Ellen Stephens. With his first wife, he apparently had four children; 2 sons - William G. and Oscar Eli and 2 daughters. My father thinks he recalls one of the daughters names as Rebecca and one as Mary. I'm sorry that I do not know the name of Richard's first wife. I wish I knew. I do know that Mary Ellen Stephens is buried in Love's Cemetery in Eliju (forgive spelling) Kentucky... in close proximity to her stepson, Eli. Richard is buried in Rushbranch Cemetery in Strawberry, KY. My grandfather would have been 14 when Richard died in 1906, and I have no idea why they weren't buried in the same cemetery. I hope it helps fill in a few blanks. If you find any more information about William, I hope you will let me know. I have heard many tall tales, but nothing I have been able to document. Quite a mystery, this William - my gg-grandfather... this whole line of Goffs are mysterious... I guess I should tell you my father is Paul Goff, Andrew's fourth son by Nellie Hughes - also from Pulaski County - and a completely new mystery. Sorry this is so long.
