In the 1850 census for Whitley Co., he and his children are listed but not Sally. The children I have names for are Nancy Jane, my gr-gr-grandmother, Elizabeth, Balem and Sarah. In the 1860 Whitley Co. census there's an Elijah Goff in Shelton Poynter's household. His age is given as 54 and there are twins with last name Goff, ages 21. I can't read their first names. Since my Elijah Goff's daughter married Jesse Poynter, perhaps the Elijah in Shelton Poynter's household could be my Elijah, since Shelton and Jesse were brothers. This is about all I have on him, or any Elijah that might be him.
