I am a descendant of James L. Gough (Goff) through his son Elijah D. Gough. I don't have much information on him, but did find him on the 1840 Monongalia, WV census. He was the son of Thomas Gough and Rachel Burns (Gough) and was married to Elizabeth DeMoss, daughter of Frances Snider and James DeMoss. I would love to connect with another "cousin". ---------- I apologize but I can't tell who sent this message. I am not a Goff descendant but I am looking for a James Goff of Monongalia/Mononghelia County, Virginia (now WV) who may have purchased land from Augustine FRIEND April 13, 1802. From the information I have the land was located in Monongalia County, 55 acres, west of the Cheat River, including the mouth of Buffton Run. If anyone knows of a FRIEND -GOFF / GOUGH connections would you please let me know. Many thanks, Pat
Pat, I not only know of James Goff, I am descended from him and have held in my hands the original of the Augustine Friend deed, which includes Augustine Friend's signature. Roy Lockhart and I co-wrote The Four Goff Brothers of Western Virginia, which includes a drawing of the placement of the 55-acre tract on a map. There's an index of the book posted at http://home.comcast.net/~philgoff/GoffBook.htm . What information are you seeking about James Goff? Thanks.
