    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5MZ.2ACEB/945.3 Message Board Post: Nancy, Boy you kicked me right into passing gear! I have the following, which isn't much, but it is something that is factual and proven on public record. Try this: Spring Lick had a train come right through it in 1870, and became a booming town. The land that was given to Spring Lick came from Russell Renfrow, according to the books in the Hardin County seat. Prior to this time, everyone in the area lived in Caney. Now, William Goff lived in Caney, near Brushy Pond, as his neighbor was my kinfolk. William was there in 1874 through 1883, according to the records. In 1885 Valentine Goff owns William's land. This may or may not be helpful to you as I don't know if it is repeated data to you. I hope it helps to shine a light on your research. You were right. Grayson courthouse was set ablaze more than once, and 99% of the old data they had is gone. It is nice to know, however, that people have donated materials to the county to rectify some of the lost infor! mation. Grayson County residents weren't always close to the county seat in Leitchfield. Many of the residents of Caney and Spring Lick used the Butler County Courthouse to do their paperwork in, merely as it wasn't the same 30 miles away. So...don't forget to research more in Butler County as well as Hardin County. Hope this helps!
