Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5MZ.2ACEB/1059 Message Board Post: Here's hoping that someone can finally help me bust through this brickwall! My step grandfather was William Meredith "Billy" Goff (1904 - 1977). He said he was born in Guthrie, KY though I've never found any documented proof for this. After year's of fruitless searching I have finally discovered that he gave the wrong name for his father ... for whatever reason ... though he did have the basic facts of his death correct. After finally trying some unusual "hunt and peck" research methods I discovered that his father's real name was William Alexander Goff and that he died in 1917 during World War One. Now to connect this William Alexander Goff into the Goff family at large. The only other "fact" that I know of William A. Goff is that besides my step grandfather, there was a daughter named Margruett E. Goff and that at the time of their father's death the children are listed as living in Nashville, TN ... although there mother is not listed as next of kin for some reason. I have yet to locate this family on any census despite years of looking. <sigh> Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Kathy
Does anyone know who the parents of this Louis GOFF were, and if he was married, and if so, who his wife was? I found him in the Social Security Death Index. Louis GOFF b. 07 Apr. 1904, home of record, Big Island, Bedford Co., VA d. Jun. 1979, home of record, Bedford Co., VA Thanks. Kathy Campbell

Lydia, the wife of Mr. John Burleson, and oldest child of David Goff, Esq. of a long painful illness, which she bore with patience and fortitude, being, towards the last of her sickness, perfectly resigned to the will of God; and confident in her hopes of a better resurrection. She was almost 31 years of age – of a tender, mild, humane disposition; very kind to all in distress; benevolent and friendly to her neighbors. She was a prudent wife, a tender mother, and an obedient and affectionate child. She lived beloved, and died lamented by all her acquaintance. She has left a disconsolate husband, one motherless little son, and afflicted parents, a very aged grand parent, four brothers, one sister, and a number of other dear friends, relations and acquaintances to lament her death. May the Lord sanctify the dispensation to her friends that survive.

Harvey Goff was born to William Allen Goff in the midwest. Possibly Iowa. Harvey's parents died when he was very young (<5yrs). He was adopted by Charles and Mary Watkins of Vincent, Iowa. Harvey was born late 1870's to 1881. I believe Harvey had siblings, he being the youngest. Do not know what happened to them. Harvey married my ggrandmother, Minnie Harms. Their first child being born in 1912. Any info would be greatly appreciated. This side of the family is a complete mystery.

I believe his wife was Mary "Polly" TITTLE. Thomas GOFF was listed on various years tax lists and on the 1820 Census for Lee County. Also living in Lee County on the 1820 Census is an Ira GOFF. By his age and vicinity to Thomas, it seems plausible that he could have been Thomas' son. Earlier records from that area show an Andrew GOFF in the Washington County, Virginia area along with this (I believe) same Thomas GOFF. Was this Thomas GOFF's father, as it seems possible? There also seems to be a connection to the GOFF family in Giles County, Tennessee. I've seen info on various people's websites, but they frankly seem in error based on the records I have personally looked at. Any help at all on these GOFFs would be much appreciated. I am trying to establish a connection to this family. I believe that my gggg-grandmother was likely the daughter of this Thomas GOFF and perhaps brother to the Ira GOFF on the 1820 Census of Lee County. Thanks for any light you might shed on this.
