Olivia, According to oral history, my William Green GOFF's parents were William and Nancy from Edgefield, SC. I can find no William and Nancy GOFF in Edgefield District. I did find the marriage record you cite, but always assumed they were "too old" to be my William's parents since he was born between 1855-1860. On the other hand, if he was born late in their marriage, that might explain why I cannot find any siblings. So this prompts me to ask, where did you find Frances? I have Frances GOFF, b 1844, to William A. GOFF (b abt 1801) and Nancy (b 1807) . William A. GOFF's parents were Mr. GOFF and Lovey MCCLAIN . Hate to admit, but I did not record my sources. Cindy, Thanks for your quick response. I have three Ruth(a) GOFFs in my database. 1. Ruth GOFF, no birth date, one of 12 children, is the daughter of Samuel GOFF and Tabitha WATSON. 2. Rutha GOFF, b Dec 26, 1812, d Dec 23, 1895, was the daughter of William GOFF and Delila. She married Elijah Samuel ODOM. 3. Rutha GOFF, b 1853, one of 9 children, is the daughter of Samuel GOFF and Eliza HUNTER. She married Freeman HALL. I have look briefly at all these families trying to find a relative of my great-grandfather, William Green GOFF. Charlotte, Thanks for your response. I have documentation that Ella Fair GOFF married Ben SIKES. I now believe that he may have been her only husband. Her mother may have been RICHARDSON or FAIRCLOTH. My father remembers her as Aunt Ella Fair FAIRCLOTH and FAIRCLOTH researchers claim that her brother, Bill was the son of a FAIRCLOTH woman and William G. GOFF. In the 1900 census, Elefaire (sic) WALKER, niece, lives in the Rufus PIERCE household, next door to William G. GOFF. Rufus' wife, Sylvannah, was sister to Elizabeth RICHARDSON, first wife of William G. GOFF and mother (?) to Ella Fair. I have no idea why she was using the WALKER surname, perhaps a mistake by the census taker. I have wonderful old photos of Ella Fair and Ben SIKES given to me by their grandson. If you have more/different information, please let me know.
