She was just about to be 85 years old. On May 9, 1928, Mary was born in Marion, Ohio, one of four children of the late Hollis H. and Esther Paulinea (Bauldauf) Hines. Losing her mother at the age of 9, she moved to Mount Gilead, where she was raised by wonderful foster parents, Walter and Retha Showers. She also graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1946. Just before graduating, Mary married the love of her life, Ernest "Posey" Goff, on May 26, 1946. Together they lovingly raised four children and shared over 57 wonderful years of marriage. A piece of her has been missing since he died on March 10, 2004. For over 30 years, Mary was well known for working at Geyer's Market in their meat department, where was very dedicated until she retired. Prior to Geyer's, she had also worked at the HPM Corporation and Taylor's Restaurant. Mary was Posey's right hand on their mini farm, helping in any way she was needed. To help her family make ends meet, Mary made use of everything that came from the farm, churning their own butter, she canned their own vegetables to enjoy all year long. She even milked the cows and plucked the chickens. A wonderful cook, no one ever left Mary's house hungry. As soon as you walked in the door, her first question was always "Can I get you something to eat?" She made countless things her family loved, with some of their favorites being her potato salad, beef and noodles, homemade cinnamon rolls and homemade bread. She will be dearly missed by her three children: Judy Cook of Columbus, Nancy (Mike) Bachelder, and Mike (Dotty) Goff, both of Mount Gilead, OH; a daughter-in-law, Karen Goff of Caledonia, OH; five grandchildren: Lisa Brewer, Rusty Goff, Benjamin (Katie) Goff, Casey Goff, and Kurtis (Lauren) Goff; two great-grandchildren: Olivia and Jessica Brewer, and several nieces and nephews. Including her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Richard "Dick" Goff; a grandson, Jim Goff; three brothers: Lester (Betty) Hines, Richard Hines and Ralph Hines. Services of celebration for Mary's life will be held on her birthday, Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at her graveside in Shauck Cemetery (S.R. 42) in Johnsville. Friends are welcome to join in this celebration. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Alzheimer's Association , Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH 43215. No - female DNA testing just follows the female lines back so you can't follow the Goff name back until you are a male that has the Goff name presently. DR Goff, as he was affectionately known by friends and colleagues was born in South Bend, IN on June 4, 1947; his parents were Germaine Richard Goff and James W. Goff. DR attended Ohio University, Athens, Ohio and served as a combat photographer in Vietnam from 1968-70. A commercial and artistic photographer in Columbus, Ohio for 25 years, he was known for his artistic gifts; a great eye for composition and a true understanding of light. He was a dedicated member of the American Society of Media Photographers, ASMP, tackling issues of artist copyright and encouraging sound business practices. He continued his focus on ASMP when he moved to New Mexico in 1998, serving as state chapter president and was always willing to share his wisdom and support with fellow photographers where ever he traveled. DR is survived by three siblings, Geraldine Papp of South Bend, IN, James Goff (Cindy) of Coweta, OK, Vicki Kastlie (Rod) of San Diego, CA; and special friend and companion, Janet Lee Jordan of Columbus, in addition to many nieces and nephews; including T.J. Papp (Melissa) of South Bend, IN. The family and Janet would like to thank sincerely Advantage Home Care Hospice of Albuquerque.
