Goff b. about 1868 Leonard Sylvester Goff B. Sept. 1970 and married Lillie Duffy Hendrieeta Goff b. 1859 d. 1862 All the children were born in West Virginia. I can trace Williams through the 1870 census, but that is it. I am interested in finding out Lousia's surname. Any help on determing William's parents would be greatly appreciated. He may be a child of Leonard Goff and Sarah Rust, but I have not found anything than parts of someone else's tree to substantiate that claim. Thanks a bunch. Tiffany Morrison [email protected]

This is my first posting to this message thread. Have any of you come across any of the following people in your searches? My great-grandfather was John Burdette Goff, born in Nebraska June 25, 1872. His father, to the best of our knowledge is Daniel R. Goff. John's wife was Olive Janet Searl (Searle, Searles), born July 18, 1875, possibly near Tecumseh Neb. John and Olive moved to Wyoming and are buried in Cody, WY. We have several census records that indicate Daniel was born about 1814-15 in Pennsylvania. He had a first marriage to an older woman, Rebecca, born in Tennessee. He married a widow named Mary Switzer (Schweitzer) who had four children; Alice, Louella, James W. and Rose. A later census shows Daniel and wife Mary with son John and the two step-children. Mary was born to Thomas and Elizer Rutter, had brothers William and J.L. Mary's first children were all born in Ohio. The grave of Daniel R. Goff is just! north of Tecumseh Neb. in the Spring Creek Cemetary. I would love proof of birth place for Daniel and his wives, proof of the two marriages and resting place for Mary Rutter Switzer Goff. Information on any of these people and their descendants and photos would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at [email protected] Thank you for responding.

He died when I was 12 and unfortunatly at that time, I was not interested in the family tree at all! Here is my line starting with my grandfather: Curtis Albert GOFF 1904-1976 (m. Gladys YEWELL) son of William B. GOFF 1867- 1942 (m. Ella CLARK) son of Jesse GOFF 1837-1916 (m. Martha MONTGOMERY) son of William GOFF 1807-1881 (m. Nancy Jane HANDY) son of Elijah GOFF 1785-1875 (m. Unity ROGERS) son of William GOFF 1765-1830 (m. Betsy WHITTON) son of Leonard GOFF 1723-1773 (m. Ann MERRITT) William GOFF and Betsy WHITTON moved from Amhearst VA. to Green Co., KY. around 1790 or there abouts. Their children born after that date were all born in Green and Barren Co. with a few in the surrounding counties as well. (As the counties were formed, I am thinking this is true of most families down there) My direct line were all born in Green Co. So, if you need more then this, I can send you to my website for more details, or write me offlist and I'll fill you in further! Thanks a bunch for any help on the Indian blood theory! Lynny Cordes

Somewhere is my family file on them, and I could tell you if the given names you're hunting for are part of this family, but I'm not following which generation you are thinking of. Seems to me there's a Green County tied into someone, but I'm not positive it's the Goffs. Why don't you respond with a couple of given names and a date or two? I'll certainly help if I can.

I have the following, which isn't much, but it is something that is factual and proven on public record. Try this: Spring Lick had a train come right through it in 1870, and became a booming town. The land that was given to Spring Lick came from Russell Renfrow, according to the books in the Hardin County seat. Prior to this time, everyone in the area lived in Caney. Now, William Goff lived in Caney, near Brushy Pond, as his neighbor was my kinfolk. William was there in 1874 through 1883, according to the records. In 1885 Valentine Goff owns William's land. This may or may not be helpful to you as I don't know if it is repeated data to you. I hope it helps to shine a light on your research. You were right. Grayson courthouse was set ablaze more than once, and 99% of the old data they had is gone. It is nice to know, however, that people have donated materials to the county to rectify some of the lost infor! mation. Grayson County residents weren't always close to the county seat in Leitchfield. Many of the residents of Caney and Spring Lick used the Butler County Courthouse to do their paperwork in, merely as it wasn't the same 30 miles away. So...don't forget to research more in Butler County as well as Hardin County. Hope this helps!

Could this be Emily Fig Creasy and Emily Frances? According to posted dates for Steve and Matilda marriage 1855 - E. Fig was born prior to their marriage. If as reported Steve was married to Frances Austin in 1818 he would have been 6 years old at the time they married in 1818. Was there 2 Steve's? I don't think the William Henry from Nancy Holsomback could be the same as our Jim's father since yours wasn't born unyil 1902 if I read the dates posted correctly.
