    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: greglovelace1950 Surnames: Goff Pearce Brandon Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goff/2263/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Greetings. I am in possession of a letter written 26 Sept. 1890 from a George M. (or possibly W.) Goff to his sister (unnamed), which I just received from my mother-in-law. She purchased a box of odds and ends years ago which contained this handwritten letter. When the letter was written, George was apparently stationed at Jefferson Barracks in Missouri. According to Wikipedia, "The Jefferson Barracks Military Post is located on the Mississippi River at Lemay, Missouri, south of St. Louis. It was an important and highly active U.S. Army installation from 1826 through 1946. It is the oldest operating U.S. military installation west of the Mississippi River." The only other names mentioned in the letter other than George are a Mrs. Pearce ("You tell Mrs. Pearce that I will be very much obliged to her when she writes to me.") and a Mrs. Brandon (".he was sitting against a tree talking to himself about god and the devil and Mrs. Brandon."). I would very much like for this letter to be with someone who is part of George's family, since I have no connection whatever. Please let me know if there are relatives on this board, or if there is a Goff historian who might take custody of the letter. It is on heavy lined stock, but the pages are tearing along folds which have been there for a long time. Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Hi Rebecca, What do you know about Joshua & Charity's son Thomas Gough b. 1766 (not 1783) The information I have is that he married Rachel Burns Sept. 28, 1797 in Randolph Co., VA - the person who posted this has him born in 1783 which is almost a generation away (so I think he is missing a generation) and marrying an Elizabeth Golden - I have looked for this information but can't find it anywhere. So I wanted to let this person know that this is probably incorrect. With the birth date of 1783 it is possible that he is a grandson of Joshua & Charity Lunsford Gough - by one of the sons - however not Thomas's son Thomas because that Thomas married Dinah Jones on Nov. 5, 1829 in Monongalia Co., VA (now WV). Also not Byram's son Thomas because he married Alitha Catherine Flesher on Jan 4, 1838 in Lewis Co., VA. I don't have any information of Joshua's son William - possibly this Thomas is his child??? Or he belongs to a brother of Joshua's or some other Gough line. Do you have any information to help this person? 2. Danny, Hi, I am a Gough cousin as well through Thomas Gough, Jr. b. June 8, 1699 in Hanover Parish, King George Co., VA d. abt. 1782 in Aquia, Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA and his second wife Hannah (who later married Bryant Chadwell) and I've done research on the entire line so I know a bit about my second cousin line through his first wife Sarah. I have the same information you do about William & Lucy Byram although I can give you better dates - he was born Sept. 28, 1726 in Rappahannock, Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA and died before Nov. 12, 1762 in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA. He married Lucy Oct. 19, 1743 in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co. VA. I also have the same information about their son Joshau & Charity Lunsford (there is an s - not Lunford) and Joshua died Nov. 11, 1812 in Monongalia Co.,(now Preston Co. WV), VA. However, I had that his son Thomas married Rachel Burns and they lived in Randolph Co., WV. He married Rachel on Sept. 28, 1797 in Randolph Co., WV and had children Thomas, Jr., b. June 1, 1800, William Loman b. Feb. 18, 1811, Joshua, James L., Hiram, Patrick B., Lettice and Mary "Polly" B. Gough. I could certainly be incorrect about this but wanted to check with you about your source and how you found his wife to be Elizabeth Golden. Frank was born 1885. They lived Crowlington Le Flore, Oklahoma. They had Venita and Mildred Goff. Mildred married Jess Hogue. She had a son name Barber (Bob)in 1936. Which he passed away in 1976. He was my father. He had some children still finding out how many. I know of Roy and Robert by Paula. Mildred did remarry and her last name was McFarland. I have heard from Jimmy Skelton that my dad had a daughter in New Mexico name Martha. Jimmy was Mildred step son. I think Frank and Bettie had another daughter name Mae. I was adopted at birth and found part of the family in the 1990s, that is why I don't know much about the family and trying to find some information for myself and my daughters. How I understand it I am related to Ishom and Sabrina Goff some how. I would appreciate if I can get the generation back to then. Arkansas County Marriage records: Frank GOFF & Betty TIDWELL 13 Feb 1906 Booneville, Logan Co., Arkansas . 1910 Spiro, Le Flore, OK census . WWI Draft Registration Card for Frank GOFF on 12 Sep 1918 Born 10 Dec 1884. He lived at RR#2, Stigler, Haskell, OK. He's of medium height, you'll have to look at another card to see what his build was (I think stout). I think it's brown eyes & black hair. There are other cards for GOFFs in Haskell Co. You might want to look at them to see if perhaps they were brothers or nephews of his. . 1920 Haskell, Oklahoma census . 1930 Spiro, Le Flore, OK census . Using the birthdate from the WWI card, there's a headstone, with a photo of Frank posted at http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=GO&GSpartial=1&GSbyrel=all&GSst=34&GScntry=4&GSsr=361&GRid=70693540&&ftm=1 Frank's signature there looks like it's from the draft registration card so they did do some research so you should contact that poster. . There are several trees at ancestry with this Frank and there are a couple of different parents named. . 1940 Cowlington, Le Flore, OK census. Mildred is divorced and her son "Barbar" is with her. Frank only had a 2nd grade education and Mildred a 4th grade education. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
