    1. DNA Study Finds 4th Major Goff/Gough/Gawf Family
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Goff Gough Gawf Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5MZ.2ACEB/1211 Message Board Post: The brick walls keep tumbling down as the Goff Surname DNA Study continues to uncover surprising results. Today we connected two families that had know known relationship, forming the fourth major Goff/Gough/Gawf family grouping. The four family groups are: 1. The family of the four Goff brothers of western Virginia, including James Goff (1735-1834), John Turton Goff, Thomas Goff and Salathiel Goff. Three of these brothers remained in what is now WV while Thomas moved to Clark Co., KY. 2. The families of Edmund S. Gawf/Goff (1794 NC/VA - ca1883 TN) and Lewis R. Goff (1811 NC/SC - 1894 TN), which were previously not known to be related have been found to have exact matches in the DNA test. What's more, their family legends about an early ancestor having been born a Barlow and later taking the name Goff has been corroborated by the DNA Study. 3. The families of Stephen Goff (1743 CT - 1799 NC) and James E. Goff (1805 NC - 1853 IN), previously not known to be related, have an exact DNA match. There is a 92% and 97% chance the common ancestor was born 200 or 300 years ago, respectively. 4. Today we discovered that the family of Isham Goff (1809 SC – after 1870 AR) is closely related to the family of William Gough (1720 VA – before 1762 VA) of Stafford Co., VA. There is an 85% and 94% chance that the common ancestor was born no more than 200 or 300 years ago, respectively. Full results are available at http://home.comcast.net/~philgoff/GoffBook.htm We are testing a descendant of George Emery Goff of Loudoun Co., VA. We are seeking male participants with an unbroken paternal lineage from the following Goff families: > Job Goff who married Zerviah Waldo and relocated from RI to what is now WV. > any other Goff/Gough (or variant) family other than the above. Please join today at http://home.comcast.net/~philgoff/GoffDNA.htm. Thanks, Phil Goff

    3. Malynda, Does a Elisha GOFF and a Peggy Tuggle sound familiar?? 1799 to1850 Marriage index has them Married 12-19-1806 Pulaski Co., Ky. There's also a John GOFF Marriage March 15, 1802. Both would be of age for Richard and Nancy's marriage of March 25, 1831. Do you have any brothers or sisters for Richard??? 3. Hi, I believe Richard and Milton were brothers, I have their mother as Mary Ellen but no first name for his father. My neighbor David GOFF is from the Milton side (Cincinnati, OH) I have a photo of this side and I posted it on Phil GOFFs Website. I think Thomas GOFF was one of 4 GOFF brothers that came to America and Thomas came to KY. This may be were the GOFFs in Pulaski Co., Ky. came from. No proof. My Great Grandfather was George GOFF, he married Ellen Huhges. Get back with me and I'll see if I can dig up some more.
