Hi Marg I'm in Norfolk, UK. I am not sure about the 5 sons names. Elisha and Thomas ended up in Missouri. I am B2394 in the Goff dna study in the John Goff Kentucky group. If so, here is a view of the 1880 census with their names on it, seems they are next door neighbors. Am curious if Archy and Minnie are William's parents? This family links to Nathan MILLS and Bettie/Betsey/Elizabeth HARRIS. Am curious if any one knows who were/are Nathan MILLS parents for sure. Others have him as of the Nicholas MILLS - Ann CLOPTON line and also of other parent names. Not sure if any one of them has done any DNA testing on that particular MILLS line. Patricia cw If not, hope it may help out others "down the way". William H and Ms McCOOL their son Albert CLINTON GOFF - his daughter Emma Lorraine married George F VANCE their son Samuel Lewis VANCE married Viola Susan MILLS. Viola's parents were Leonard Franklin MILLS and Susannah HESS. Leonard's parents were Peter G MILLS and Lydia SIMON Peter's parents were Western R MILLS and Frances/cis "Fanny" ZICKEFOOSE. Western's parents were Nathan MILLS and Bette/Betsey/Elizabeth HARRIS daughter of James HARRIS and ELziabeth PHARES/SHARES. Says some that James came from Dublin Ireland. Father might have been Robert HARRIS. Old posting from back in 2004 on the message boards. Coincidentally, a HARRIS/JOHNSON seems to match on DNA markers to my MILLS descendant, in that they share a Common Ancestor, (MRCA). Because of this, it's great to let you know that the 2013 Goff-Gough Gathering (Sep 5-7)will be in historic and scenic southeastern Massachusetts. There will be a variety of interesting activities scheduled which you can read about at http://goff-gough.com/cpage.php?pt=48. There is other information about the Gathering on the website as well, including a listing of the contents of the 34 boxes of research of Thomas Theodore Goff housed at the New England Historic Genealogical Society, which attendees visit on Friday. Lodging is at the Hampton Inn - Raynham-Taunton, centrally located - less than 40 miles from Boston, Providence, Plymouth and Cape Cod and near the home area of many early Goffs. If you descend from or have an interest in the Goff family of Bristol Co., MA, consider attending the Gathering in Massachusetts this September. If you are not yet a member of the Goff/Gough Family Association ("GGFA"), please join today at http://goff-gough.com. We are seeing a growing interest in the GGFA due to enhancement in membership benefits. Author: jess_ray74 Surnames: Goff Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goff/2266/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have recently became very interested in these two people in my family tree. I was hoping someone could give me some more knowledge. From the limited research I have been able to do on these two I have concluded the following: Let me start with Samuel. Samuel Goff (1790-1860), son of Dempsey Goff, was born in SC. He married Tabitha Watson and died in Dooley Co. GA. In the 1850 Census, there is a Samuel Goff in Laurens GA who was one of the largest slave owners in the area, which leads me to believe he owned a rather large plantation. Is this the same man that died 10 years later in Dooley? I found a will for a William Goff in this period that mentions Samuel. This makes sense to me because Samuel did indeed have a brother William. I have also heard that Samuel and William were orphaned. Does this mean they were adopted into the Goff family? Now Tabitha: I have found her name spelled 3 different ways, Tabitha, Tobitha, and Abitha. She was apparently a Creek Indian. I have not been able to find any pictures of her, even though I did find some of her daughter Pinkey Ann. I was also not able to find any information on her parents. Can anyone give me more insight on this extremly interesting couple? Or possible give me any advice on more places to research? Thanks you!
