Author: mwilliams211395 Surnames: Goff, Dildine, Childress Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goff/15.172/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, My name is Michael Williams and I am researching my Goff line in Tennessee. I came across this ancestry.com message board posting: I realize it is old, but I was hoping to swap information on our Goff lines. Maybe we are related. Here is some information on my Goff line. My Goffs are located in central Tennessee (White, Warren, De Kalb counties). They have been there since the early 1800s. I have traced my Goff line to Frank Goff (Abt 1830 - 1863). He married Nancy Childress in 1856. Frank served in 16th regiment TN infantry company K. I believe Frank's mother is Nancy Dildine (Abt 1810-1880). I believe she was born in South Carolina. I also believe Frank's father may have came from South Carolina or North Carolina. Frank had a brother James Madison Goff (1826-1890). He was born in Tennessee and moved to Wayne county, Missouri. He married a Susan. His family moved from Missouri to Arkansas. Frank had a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Goff (1842- Aft 1880) who married James Dove. They stayed in central Tennessee. There was also a John Goff who married a Sarah and had a daughter Margaret. I do not know much about this family. There was another child Jeremiah, but little is known about him. Does any of this Goff information sound familiar? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi Chris,  I read your post with great interest.  I've been looking for descendants of the Northamptonshire Goff Family.  The newsletter for the Goff - Gough Family Association has this year included a series of articles on the distribution of the Goff surname.  The study has used the 1841 census and 17th century hearth tax returns as a basis for distribution maps.  From this work I know that Northamptonshire was a place of concentration for the family.   I would love to get more cousins from the UK into the Goff - Gough Family Association.  Thanks,  Phil Goff Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Smartphone <div>-------- Original message --------</div><div>From: Chris Woods via <goff@rootsweb.com> </div><div>Date:09/08/2014 12:51 PM (GMT-05:00) </div><div>To: goff@rootsweb.com </div><div>Subject: [GOFF] Thomas Goff </div><div> </div>Hi Folks, nice to see some English Goffs - my earliest is a Thomas Goff who was a farmer living in Bozeat, Northamptonshire. Author: SLGrimesScott Surnames: Goff/Brewster Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goff/2283/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for the connection between the Goff and Brewster families. Here is why... Jerena and Ezra Byrd, who were living in Texas at the time, "took in" Hiram about age 9 and William Brewster about age 3 upon the the death of the boys parents in Sabine or Natchitoches Parish Louisiana. I know this because of what my grandmother told me about this event and confirmation in the difference between the 1860 census showing Hiram and William along with brother Andrew still living with their parents and the 1870 census showing the boys living with Ezra and Jerena Byrd. I know back then it was customary for relatives to "take in" children of relatives if the parents died. So I am looking to see if Hiram and William's mother Muretta Jeneta or Jereta (no last name mentioned) is a relative of either Ezra Byrd or Jerena Goff. Hiram is my great great grandfather. and is buried in Rock Prairie Missionary Baptist church, North Zulch,Madison Co.,Tx. Hiram's only son John Joseph ! "Joe" Brewster is also buried in the same cemetery. Joe's oldest daughter from his first marriage is Rosa "Rosie" Ora Brewster is my grandmother and her youngest son RV Grimes is my Dad. Author: SLGrimesScott Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.goff/1064.2.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am also a decendent of John Joseph Brewster and his first wife Delphia Jane Martin the only daughter from this marriage was my grandmother Rosa (Rosie) Ora Brewster. John Joseph and Delphia Jane divorced. John Joseph's second marriage to Rena Hutchin happened when my grandmother was 5 years old and Aunt Jereta (Jeretie as my grandmother called her) was her half sister. My grandmother Rosie married George Washington "Wash" Grimes and I am the oldest daughter of their youngest and only living son RV Grimes. Now about Hiram (John Joseph "Joe"'s daddy) and William Brewster were sent to live with Ezra and Jerena Byrd in Texas after their parent's died. My grandmother told this to my mom and dad (RV) first hand. Hiram and William's parents were Josia B Brewster born in Kentucky and a Muretta Jeneta (or Jereta) last name no t really given.in some searches Goff or byrd in others. I am trying to find the link between the Brewster and Ezra Byrd families. Possibly that Jerena and! Jereta were sisters and that is why Hiram and William were sent to live with them because they were the next of kin. Also I can't find anything on Josia B. Brewster other than he was born in Kentucky...no mother or father listed. Can you help in the search for our Brewster ancestors?
