Lambert on Jun 27, 1878 His parents were William Goethe & Sarah E. (C.?) LAMBERT1 Jun 27, 1878, daughter of W. LAMBERT and SARAH MURELL. Notes for JAMES E. GOETHE: (Excerpt from "Biographical Souvenir of the States of Georgia and Florida") Our subject, James E. Goethe, began business for himself at the age of thirteen, clerking. At the age of seventeen he began the saw-mill business with McCloud & Bro., in Savannah. Later he worked at Bramson, Varnville, Prentice, Screven, Hartridge, Pendarais, Nailor, Waltertown, Joslyn, and Dale's mill, where he is now as head sawyer. He has been quote successful. Though seeming to change about in location, he has worked as long as seven years in the employ of one firm, G.B. Hack, and has worked more than three years in his present position. When he has changed it has been for an increase of salary. He never received a discharge in his life nor never quit an employer with due and timely notice. March 17, 1888, John T. Ray, partner and general manager for Dale, Dixon, & Co., was killed in the hurricane wreck on the S.F. & W. R.R., when Mr. Goethe was appointed to fill the position at that time held by the deceased, and is giving thorough satisfaction. Mr. Goethe was married June 27, 1878, to Miss Sue W. Lambert, of South Carolina...Both parents are devout members of the Methodist Church. Our subject was appointed classleader in 1887, also steward, and has served in both postions very acceptably; and he would neglect any other duties rather than those of the church of his choice. He also believes in total abstinence, as he neither drinks or uses tobacco in any shape or form. He is a member of the Masonic order.
