Author: adyleigh Surnames: Godin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.godin/384.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Unfortunately, I don't know anything else. My grandmother got married shortly after his death and had two other children. Nobody in the family ever really talked about it, or our Aboriginal heratige either (my grandmother was also half Osage). All my dad knows, if it is correct, is that he was a merchant marine and died on a cargo ship in 1945 when is appendix burst and that he was from Northern New Brunswick. I will be contacting the Canadian War Museum too, as I live in the area, to see what I can find. Any info would be muchly appreciated. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: adyleigh Surnames: Godin/Goddeau? Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.godin/384/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'm looking for information on my grandfather. He died during the war in 1945 on a cargo ship, his appendix burst. He died while my grandmother was pregnant with my dad in Newfoundland. They were not married, but were going to be when he returned. They already had a daughter Mary who would have been around 16 months old when he died. We think his name was Henri Godin or Goddeau. He was apparently from Northern New Brunswick and was most likely of Aboriginal heratige. I was wondering if anyone knows of anyone who died this way in their family. Author: kbazgodin1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.godin/383.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sorry, The dates were included in the title to the post. He was born in 1606 in Normandy France and died about 1694 in either Quebec or New Brunswick. My line goes back to him through Charles 1631-1706. I did find the "other" Jacques through the Pierre line and that is certainly not him. As you indicated I am pretty certain that Claude (son of Vorle)is not his father as many people list it. I have not, however, been able to find any other information about whom his father or mother might be. Thanks again for your help. Author: Chatillon2 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.godin/383.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are countless Jacques Godin/Gaudin who lived in the past. Need a birth date if possible to narrow the search. Claude & Marie did not have a Jacques. Their only son was Pierre dit Chatillon born 1628 Chatillon sur Seine, France. Copy of his birth certificate is in the French Archives and only shows his name as Pierre. If you have any dates for Jacques, other family first names, or where he lived, it would be helpful. Another hint: If the Jacques you are searching for lived in NB, NS, or Acadia then he is connected to Pierre Chatillon. If from Quebec area, then he's from the Charles Gaudin branch. Not related. Author: kbazgodin1 Surnames: Godin, Gaudin, Bardin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.godin/383/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to find the parents of Jacques Gaudin. There are a lot of trees on the site that list his parents as Claude Gaudin and Marie Bardin but I am not sure that is correct. The best information I can find shows both Claude and Marie being born around 1600 which obviously doesn't work. Many people have abt. 1584 for Claude on their listings but I can't seem to find any data to verify that date. Going the other way I also cannot find a match because the only child I can find good documentation for between Claude and Marie is Pierre. Sometimes he shows as Pierre Jacques which is perhaps why some make this link but I cannot find anything that would verify this and the dates do not seem to work. If anyone has any information on this I would be most appreciative. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have an Anthony Godin (b. abt 1912) in Clinton NY. He is married to Catherine and both have parents listed as born in Canada. They have children born in both Vermont and New York. I think that they may be the parents of Lewis Godin, born in 1846. If this is true it appears that he may have followed his brother William to Northern Michigan in the late 1800's.
