I couldn't help but notice you are in the Tampa area, and I live in Tampa. I am a Godby from south GA. I believe that my great great grandfather William Godby's family moved from GA to Indiana or Kentucky. I have not been able to locate them past his generation. He lived in Lee Co., GA in 1850 census, close to Williams brother-in-law. There were Godbys in GA in 1790 census. Have been unable to get past William, b.c. 1815. He had sons John, Thomas, Reddin and Elijah; daughters Adaline, Margaret Rebecca, Melissa, Eliza. Is anything familiar to you? (William, Elijah, John (son of Elijah) are buried in Seminole County, GA. There is a large family of Godbys there, and Jerry Godby is the Sheriff of Seminole Co. If you can shed any light for me, I would be eternally grateful, as would all those descendants in So. GA.
