    3. Anybody looking for Godby ancestors in England? Mine is Eunice Prudence Godby born about 1775. She married Thomas Wood, a London pewterer. He froze to death while riding as an "outside passenger" on a stage coach. She was left with four young children. Besides the London connections, I have found her in the records of Norwich, Norfolk, England, though I don't know her birthplace. I'd be happy to hear from anyone tracing English Godby ancestors. 1. [GODBY-L] William Godbey
    2. Does anyone know where I can find documentation on the birthplace and birthdate of William Godbey of Montgomery Co., VA. William died c. 1833 MontCo. Pulaski Death Register of Francis and Benjamin list parents as William and Susanah Godbey, although various sources list William's wife as Zannah. First documented Godbey in MontCo was 1780. A note on the estate settlement of William Godbey states "A list of the property sold by Goerge and Francis Godbey, executors of William Godbey, deceased which was given to the widow who is now dead made the 28th day of November 1834." So, Susanah Godbey died between 1833 and Nov. 1834. The 1775 Tax list for Louisa County lists a Rafael Godbey living with a Charles Gunter. Next door neighbor was a William Godbey. Anyone have an idea as to who these people were? Many thanks for any help. Tom Thompson Wilmington, N. C.

    3. I am looking for Susannah Godbey b. 1 June 1793 in Montgomery county, VA. Her parents are William Godbey and Susannah. Susannah married William Covey 11 Dec 1810 in Montgomery County VA I believe she and her husband migrated to MO some time between 1840 and 1850. William Godbey died sometime before 1850 because he is not listed on the 1850 census. He also died after 1833 because son Joshua was born then. I believe there were at least 12 children born to William Covey and Susannah Godbey. They are as follows: 1. John H. Covey b. abt 1811 in Montgomery Co, VA 2. Patsey Covey 3. Robert Covey 4. Sarah Covey 5. Benjamin Covey b. abt 1817 6. Elizabeth Covey 7. Susannah Covey b. 1824 in VA 8. Daniel Covey 9. Rebecca Covey b. abt 1826 in Montgomery Co, VA 10. William H. Covey b. abt 1828 in VA 11. David H. Covey b. 1 Aug 1831 in VA 12. Joshua Covey b. abt 1833 in MO This is based on a Land record where mother Susannah and children purchased land. Mother Susannah is list on the 1850 Ray County MO census but William has already died. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mary

    3. Hello fellow GODBYs Just writing to introduce myself and see who else is out there. My GODBY family settled in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. They originated from Huntingdonshire, England. I have records dating back to the early 1700s. Many old photos of family members from Canada, England and some who settled in India. I have a letter written in 1883 by an uncle to a niece explaining the family history, academic history, and rich military history. I also have the painted portrait of Robert GODBY in his British uniform who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. I hope others might introduce themselves in a similar fashion so we can all know one another. I will be glad to share my information and photographs with those who are interested.
