A church administrator in Beaumont also answered my inquiry and provided some info from General Conference Archives. Apparently Rev. Godbey was the pastor of their church for a period of time. Now I just need to nail down his marriage to Civility Platt Stevenson in Groveton... Aloha.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YVZ.2ACIB/28.1 Message Board Post: There are a number of ways you might find out about Rev. Victor GODBEY. Since he was a Methodist minister, the UMC keeps good records of ministers. Typically this will cost a few dollars for the research. You might try http://www.gcah.org which is the General Conference Archives of the UMC. Also, each year there is a "Conference Annual" published. If you know the year of his death, locate this conference annual and he most likely will have an obit published. At times in the 1800's the Methodist Church had regional magazines called "Christian Advocates." One was the Nashville Christian Advocate, one was the St. Louis Christian Advocate, the Pacific Christian Advocate, etc. I cannot tell you when the last ones were published, but many times obits of both ministers and family members were published in these as well. I know this doesn't give you much to go on, but it might get you started in a direction. Mike

Hello Everyone :) Just wanted to let you all know that on my Maxpages website I have finally gotten the letters that were found in the box of treasures this past summer, on line. They were written mainly to my grandparents, Archie Joe and Lucy Marie Weaver Rigney, My g-grandparents, William Henry and Mariah Underwood Rigney and My g-g-grandparents, John "Frank" and Amanda Stroud Bolar Rigney. A few were written to my Grandfathers sister, Ella Rigney Hampton, all lived in Lincoln Co., KY, not far from Liberty, Casey Co., KY. You can't miss them, they are on the letters home and letters home page two, pages. Some of the surnames are Rigney, Donelson, Hammond, Young, Godby and a few others. Enjoy reading, I'm still working on the postcards, but I'm moving in two weeks, just across town, but still have to pack the house up and unpack :). Plus I'm indexing the postcards at the same time, and trying to take my time so I can get as many clues as I possible. In the recent past I placed a query to this list about Uncle Sam. He was my great-grandfathers sisters husband. There were some concerns about questions, et. al I had about his life. At sometime in the past and just this past week two great individuals sent me information on Uncle Sam out of the Godby/Godbey Book written by some woman. Ok, Mike get on with it. In the book it states that Uncle Sam married a Laura DAY -AFTER- he married my great-great Aunt Rachel. This didn't seem plausible. I've searched the last year and more to find the answer. I learned the answer today and wish to share it with the list, as well as correct information in this book. Laura F. DAY, the daughter of George S. and Theresa DAY was born 2-18-1853 in New Orleans, LA. She married Rev. Samuel McGinnis GODBEY on 1-26-1877 (place unknown-as of yet). Laura F. (DAY) GODBEY died 2-15-1880 in Morrisville, Polk, MO. On 7-11-1881 Rev. Samuel McGinnis GODBEY married Rachel A. WINTON. So what does this mean? First, the reference materials I used are from the Missouri Archives of the United Methodist Church in Central Missouri College, Fayette, MO. Second, thought I might let everyone know who owns this book about the error. Lord knows how many mistakes I've made in my research. Third, if anyone is interested, I do have a bit more on this line.
